Getting a retired player's autograph

Hey, all. I know many people will go to card shows or team events, like old timer's games, and whatnot, but what about those players that wouldn't be at such events? I have some old magazines and programs that would look really swell if they were autographed, but I have no clue on how to undertake such an endeavor.

Is there anyone with experience in this kind of thing that could shed some advice?

TTM through the mail.There are some forums that have data bases with addresses for all different sports plus movie and T.V. stars.Ive been doing this for about years and have close to 1,000 autographs.

I use sportscardforum.Its free to use the TTM data base,and there are thousands of addresses.

There is one autograph I would like to get, not a popular name, but he is the president of a company and likely very busy.

Do others have luck in sending something in the mail,
having it signed and then returned?

It has been a few years since I have sent TTM requests, but my success rate was around 60%, which seemed to be the hobby norm. I always sent a letter asking if it was okay to send the item (Sports Illustrated covers). Some players charge but most did not. Players are starting to catch on since this site popped up about a year or so ago. I have not used the site but I am thinking about it for a few players.

Busy? Good one. Often those are the best signers. They sit around their office doing not much all day. The only thing you would have to watch for is a secretarial signature. I have sent many in the mail with great success and I second sports address lists as well as a company called sportscollectors.net they also have a fee, but will show people's successes and failures at specific addresses. Well worth the fee.
