I was wondering if anyone can provide some input on the following photo?
It seems to be a supplement from the Pittsburgh Gazette Times from 1910. It measures 8 3/4 x 11. I found this exact same image of Honus Wagner, on the Honus Wagner Postcard (Gazette Times). I have been unable to find a similar supplement and I was wondering if anyone can provide some more information? Thank you for all your input. Lucky. |

Any thoughts on this Honus Wagner premium would be much appreciated?
Thank you all for your time. |

I don't have any specific knowledge about the premium, but there was a presentation of the winner's checks for the 1909 world series and I'm thinking this image may have something to do with that. Honus is looking like he just got paid.

A parade in the city and then a ceremony at Forbes Field took place on Oct 18, 1909. Not positive the supplement/premium is connected but seems possible. 1909 image copyrighted and distributed in 1910.

Thank you Ray for all your input...
I have found this 1910 Pittsburgh Gazette Times Honus Wagner Postcard that has the same image of Honus Wagner. There is the same Gazette Times Connection... Not sure what to make of it. |

There are a fair number rare and obscure local and regional supplements and premiums, often from local newspapers, so finding a never before seen one happens on occasion.

Found this original photo that seems to have a similar premium of Honus Wagner...in the background. Interesting indeed.

I was wondering if anyone of the board members can shed some light on this photo? Were early premiums always "pull out" from the the rest of the newspaper? Was there ever any newspaper print behind premiums?
Any and all input would be very welcomed.. Lucky. |

The Police Gazette supplements come both blank backed and with magazine text on back. The blank backs were loose, while the latter were part of the magazine but presumably were made to be removed.
The Harper Woodcuts and similar 1800s magazine prints have text on back. Last edited by drcy; 11-14-2017 at 12:57 AM. |
