Odd PSA grades cards

Odd that this is a VG but shows up as a PSA 4. I checked the registry and it shows VG-EX. Really odd and how does PSA screw up like this?

Only reason why I ask is that I saw another card, a Johnson cookies that was missing the I in mint

Far from an expert - I'm sure others will chime in, but that label looks fake to me. Anyone else?

Something also seems off on the Aaron - in addition to the missing "i", the barcode is "broken". I'd stay FAR AWAY!

I didn’t doubt the cards. Especially the Aaron, I’ve dealt with him recently and he’s totally legit with some awesome cards. But thought it was a psa error.

I was told by a very knowledgable hobbyist that the plank was based on the old psa system and there wasn’t a vgex. And the Aaron was scanned using a dust removal option which affected the letter.

In addition, the Plank the PSA text appears to be using a different text font compared to what they are currently using.

As far as the Cracker Jack Plank is concerned, I think this is an example of an early PSA graded card.

At first PSA did not have number grades on the flip. A VG card labeled as VG with no numeric grade printed. I have a program from the 1992 National in Atlanta where PSA has an ad with examples of cards labeled without numeric grade.

I think this card is from the era when they first printed a numeric grade with the printed grade and there may limitations of number of characters or just general problems that were eventually fixed.

The top of the holder looks frosted. My guess is the flip is replaced and it was originally a 1.5 or something.
If that's not the case, I've never seen a PSA card graded VG 4 before. Maybe they did it in the early years, but the only times I know of where they changed their scale was to add the half grades and change PR-FR 1 to break out Poor 1 and Fair 1.5.

Very early on PSA had a different system at the lower end. VG was 4. It was poor fair good very good. It's fine.
