Picked up these items (below) recently and thought they were interesting. I love looking at how stuff, especially baseball game related, used to be
![]() While still fielding a legitimate team, the Clowns also toured with several members known for comic acts — sort of a baseball version of the Harlem Globetrotters, including Joe "Prince" Henry. As the Negro Leagues declined in the late 1940s after the integration of Major League Baseball, the Clowns continued operations on barnstorming tours into the 1960s. By 1966 the Indianapolis Clowns were the last Negro league team still playing. The Clowns continued to play exhibition games into the 1980s, but as a humorous sideshow rather than a competitive sport. After many years of operation as a barnstorming team, the Clowns finally disbanded in 1989 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Nice Clown memorabilia Leon and thanks for posting. I've always wants to get a clowns postcard from any decade. You don't see too many Clown items surface in the market place.

That's because the advanced collectors do not want to let the word out or make them more desirable. What I've noticed in the past 20 years is when a Clown postcard or other cool item is advertised correctly in an auction it gets serious bids and a good high price for the item. Then the item disappears in a serious collection for decades to not be seen again.

I actually have a couple of friends in Major League Baseball. Through I have yet to find one of them much in the mood to listen to me, I advocate the idea of having a team of players that are similar to the Harlem Globetrotters who would tour the country visiting inner city schools and ballfields and then playing local celebrities a three inning game before a minor league game. There are probably plenty of former major leaguers who would like that, you could probably have a small roster size and even if it didn't make a strict profit, it would be great outreach and community relations for MLB...

Here's my one and only Clowns item, but it's a nice one. I'd still like to see one of the photos advertised on the back.
