Does Mantle's 1950's signature carry a huge premium ? I would love to find an old signature on a card or a ball without paying a fortune.

They do definitely hold a premium, especially rookie era signatures.

Yup. He signed a million autos after he retired but early ones are much rarer and have the benefit of being visually distinct.
