How many known reprints were ever done of t205 card sets?

About 2.5 million, I think. Seriously I think there are thousands and thousands of almost all of our cards as reprints.

Damn. A few of those reprints actually look pretty legit. Definitely aren't though..

... I know Dover did a reprint. I'm not sure if that was the entire set or just select cards. I'm not sure who else has reprinted the set. It seems frequently to pop up more as counterfeit than reprint as Leon demonstrates.
I'm sure others know much more about it than I do.. |

I guess, what I'm getting at is whether the counterfeits are prevalent? I have heard that there are even old "reprint/counterfeit" cards from who knows when.

T205's are in the group of rarely counterfeited cards...as the reprints for this set tend to be obvious. The gold borders are apparently relatively tough to copy...I don't think I've ever seen a good fake (or maybe I just saw a really good fake ;-) ) There are reprint sets...but nothing that comes close to matching the originals.

T205s are more straightforward to authenticate due to the metal borders. The real metal borders were made from metal flakes (gilding), while reprints will either have no metal (just a picture of it) or have metal that is too smooth and new looking.
I very highly doubt any homemade comprint counterfeit is going to have any metal on it. Too much work (and it would likely end up looking like crap anyway) when they could simply reprint a T206. Last edited by drcy; 12-27-2016 at 12:21 PM. |

Here's a fake Cobb I have:
![]() ![]() Front looks washed out, entirely too thick in person, back is poorly done (obvious photo copy), artificial aging, bubbled crease. This one has all the tell tale signs. ![]() Last edited by asoriano; 12-27-2016 at 12:21 PM. |

For the Cobb, you can tell the back has been artificially aged or reprinted on modern stalk. This is because the chipped areas are much lighter.

Thanks for the image of the Cobb ! Nice to see a fake for comparison.
