Whats your favorite baseball movie?

For me its Field Of Dreams!This movie never gets its do?At the end, when Ray has a catch with his dad, this gets me ever time.No one in my family cares for any sports,including my father.My brother is a Chiefs fan,but not into collecting.My dad is now 81 & in a nurshing home.So we well never have that catch!Thanks for reading my post,Rob.

For me, probably "For Love of the Game" with Kevin Costner. I also love "Field of Dreams" and "8 Men Out" (despite its inaccuracies).

I love 'The Natural,' with its baseball scenes filmed at Buffalo's War Memorial Stadium (The Rockpile), and like every other human being in existence, I give 'Field of Dreams' ten thumbs up. 'Bull Durham' has quite a few great scenes. A not too shabby must-see.

To venture out there a bit, 'Mr. Baseball' - starring Tom Selleck playing in Japan - was pretty decent as well.

Bang the Drum Slowly. I just love the era, the uniforms with sleeves underneath, batting helmets with no flaps, the earlier color footage and relatively poor focus, etc.

A boy sneaks into Yankees spring training camp in the early 60s to meet his heroes Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris.

I was 5 when that movie came out and I wanted to be that kid!!!

A League of Their Own is my favorite baseball movie. So many great quotes and great characters. In the ending scenes filmed at Doubleday Field, you can see the back of my garage.

Sandlot : it's has a ton of baseball cards in it . Post cards on the cereal box. Babe Ruth takes the Hank Aaron rookie . Cards in the tree house etc . It's also funny and a good story .

I had a brain fart and left Bingo Long off my short list...which it certainly is.

Glad to see 'Trouble with the Curve' get some love.

'Talent for the Game' is another outstanding flic.

4-way tie: For the Love of the Game, 42, *61, and The Natural. It was amazing how the computer-generated effects captured the beauty and wonder of Ebbets Field and really brought home the BS Jackie Robinson was subjected to.

This summer a local historic concert theater had a summer movie series where they played a classic each week. I took my dad to see Field of Dreams on his birthday. It was awesome.

When I was a kid I etched Wonderboy on my bat with a magnifying glass.

I have always been fascinated with teams barnstorming. That's why Bingo Long is my fav baseball movie. You gotta love Richard Pryor trying to figure out his batting average.

Although I have a soft spot for We Are...Marshall, it is amazing to me how much better on balance baseball movies are than other sports with the exception of an occasional Rudy here and there. I think the reason is that the pace of baseball and the pace of drama are very similar in that a surprise twist can come at any time in a game or a drama. But that could simply be a sentimental view.

For me A Field Of Dreams..........it reminds me of the days when I used to play catch with my father. He never refused even when he was sick with cancer and chemotherapy.

A close second is the Natural.

Another good movie was Stealing Home with Jodi Foster and Mark Harmon.

We Are Marshall is great but it lost a lot in my eyes when I found out that the "We are.. Marshall!" chant didn't happen until after the events of the movie. Throws off the whole thing.

I like "Miracle" as the sports movie I've ever seen. Great acting and accurate to the true story.

But, yeah, you're right - other sports just don't attract the quantity of quality movies that baseball does.

My favorite is the 1st baseball movie I saw as a young kid in 1949. Jimmy Stewart plays Monte Stratton in a great performance of this true life
story of a promising Chicago White Sox pitcher, whose career is cut short in a hunting accident.

Many Major League ballplayers are featured in this film......Bill Dickey, Joe DiMaggio (cameo), Johnny Lindell, Jimmy Dykes, Gene Bearden, etc.



Shown here is a partial view of a theatre marquis of this movie. I acquired it in 1987 at an Atlantic City BB card show.

I very highly recommend this BB movie......check it out.

Marshall grad and lived in the area (10 years old) at the time of the crash. Ashes to Glory is a very good documentary if you are interested in something more realistic and gritty. The Cam Henderson story fills out the required viewing for Marshall fans.
