Guys,
I heard it mentioned on a YouTube video and was wondering if anyone had any knowledge of good/respectable Facebook Groups for T206 collectors? Thanks! |

I joined the Tobacco Card Collectors group this week. There are only 100 or so members, so not a ton of posting. I’d love to see more people join it instead of making more groups to join, all talking about the same things.
I posted in there and got more comments in an hour than I ever get when I post in the pickup threads here (you know, since I’m not posting graded Cobb or Mathewson cards).

Tobacco Row is set up as a secret group on Facebook. Won't be able to find it from a search. You have to know one of the members in order to be vouched in. This helps keep it as a safe place to buy sell trade and mostly talk pre war cards. Currently there are 387 with 358 listed as "active". Active meaning they were on the page in the last 28 days. The group will be 2 years old in August.
If you would like... Send me a PM on facebook and i'll see if we have any mutual friends that may be able to add / vouch you in. FB Link below. People in the group often call it the best kept secret on facebook. It's more of a community than the normal buy sell groups we see most facebook groups become with thousands of members. https://www.facebook.com/millerd33 |

I believe you were one of the guys in the other group that had some kind words about my Scoops Carey back run. It was nice that others appreciated it.

I am not a FB fan. I went to one of those groups yesterday and it's a fustercluck to me. Good luck to that organizational nightmare. And FB is so freaking invasive it won't ever be a part of this forum. For all those that like FB, more power to you. Have fun!! We'll be here with the largest software system specifically designed for forums, Vbulletin.
I should add I am not against collectors collecting on FB. Party on, the more the merrier.

about family members without their permission all the time. When someone posts a link to FB even if it's card related I won't click on it. I don't have any interest in joining. |

I am not a FB fan. I log on a few times a month and belong to a few groups. I just thought I should belong to something related to prewar/T206 considering my addiction.
I am not a fan of secret non-inclusive groups either, so starting one seemed like a good idea. I have no idea what that involves, so maybe I will stay away. |

I agree 100% Leon. When it comes to platforms a message board is bar none when it come to being able to organize and search information. Add that to the long standing and wealth of information this board provides. It can never be duplicated.
The FB groups are social media and that's how we handle TR. It's social. The aim of the group is to take that platform so many use and make it easy to share your pickups. buy and sell cards and most important talk hobby with people who also love the cards as we all do. There are a lot of members who are new to the hobby (this era for sure) and giving them a safe place to buy a raw cards and get to know it personally is so important to it growing and pulling them away from today's shiny's. We keep it as a secret group for one very important reason. Social media is full of less than honorable people. By having to know someone to get in it adds a level of protection to the people who log on and enjoy the banter. Net54 can never be duplicated given it's member base's knowledge and the platform to be able to find that information in an easy way. Just google anything you want to know in old cardboard and add net 54 at the end and you will find that answer in short order. What TR does is tries to bring that community card shop feel to the internet. Two great resources that I feel can play very well together. |

I think TR is a great group from what I have seen. No reason not to happily coexist. Happy Hunting...(have to throw a card in)
