Recently acquired a number of 1957 cards from original owner. This one was in there and not really sure what to make of it. Certainly not the pronounced EUGENF W. BAKEP I've seen on some cards, but also definitely not a full E and R as I see on other commons. Is there a "third" variation of something in between like what I have here?

I have seen degrees in both the Bakep and 58 Herrer, but I think you would have a hard sell on this one. I could be wrong...often am

You've got about 90% of the leg of the R, so no, I wouldn't in any way call this a BAKEP variation.

It could be a transition card. I have a Campos back star and also a card with partial black in the star. Doubt anyone would call it a variation but transition cards or variant cards (different than the common version of the card) are still neat to see and collect ( for me anyway)

I say no way. I have abut 8-10 Bakep and they are much more noticeable than that. It is a stupid variation but i have been looking for it for 30 years. you still can find them in commons every now and then. Many people figure it to be a literal p as opposed to a print smudge that makes it look like a p.

thanks for all the comments - hate to stick it in a common box but maybe someone will have interest in it as a "transition" card
