Kevin,
Dom has two different Cuban cards, the 1946-47 Propagandas Montiel and the 1946-47 Sensacion Premium. Dave |

The 1939 SF Examiner card of Dom DiMaggio, from his Seals tenure, is certainly amongst the toughest. There are very few known examples of any players from this issue.

So... this is what the checklist book says is available. The book has been known to contain some errors/omissions but is generally a good resource. Thanks to my IT guy (Son) here is the Dom entries and the book cover. I did not cross check with the OP's list. Good luck in your quest!!!

Thats a great list - im not sure i would count those larger newspaper cutouts - i did by an r423 strip with him on it as well but there are a bunch of oddballs in the 53 range it seems.

![]() ...1946 ?....Too pretty to hand-cut up as per the instructions....From what I've read and seen , these were issued in several different color schemes , and the kids they were mailed to weren't thinking of us collectors when they scissored the individual player cards out of the main sheet....I've seen several be number-graded if the entire colored border is retained , otherwise they are simply slabbed as " Authentic ; Hand Cut "---....someday , hopefully a long time from now , TheWidowGarcia will be selling this to raise money for a cruise ( or bling for a poolboy in FLA. )....could anyone who is familiar with this set give me an estimate what one of these might sell for , down the road , in its current state ? ( I really don't want the estate attorney to separate them for an extra few bucks but then again I'm not going to be having any say in the matter , am I ? ) Thanks , MikeGarcia ... |

![]() ...I'm thinking 1941.....I haven't ever seen any offerings listed as a definite 1940..this was in the envelope with the following team-mates , if that will assist you in pinning down the year of issue.....the roster-knowledgeable guys might be able to help on this..: Jim Tabor John Peacock Roger Cramer Lou Finney Bob Doerr Lefty Grove Joe Cronin Jimmie Foxx and an obviously very young Ted Williams ..hope this helps your quest...player master sets are a bitch , and when you mentioned possibly adding "team mates " to the hunt , I gave out a low whistle , rolled my eyes , and thought hey maybe I'm not the only Walter Mitty on the board after all.... ... |

Mike,
There are clearly two different Boston photo packs for 1940 and 1941. I don't have my pack rosters right at my hands (at work), but I believe that there are two player differences in the pack of 25. The key for telling the 1940 from the 1941 Boston Red Sox photo packs is the SIZE OF THE SIGNATURE. For the ?23 players that were in both the 1940 and 1941 photo packs, the same exact photo was used, but in 1941 the photos had the signature enlarged. The enlarged signatures were done as it was felt to be too difficult to read the 1940 signatures. I will look at my 1940 and 1941 Dom DiMaggio and let you know for sure, but a quick guess says that your photo may be the small signature and be from 1940 and not 1941. I will get back with you. Dave Mike, if you look at your players listed in your post and your have both large and small signatures, this is a combo pack (often put together in that time period). You can also look at either Ted Williams or Jimmie Foxx--these are the two most obvious signature size differences. Clearly the 1940 is exponentially harder to find, so you may have a nice partial pack there. Last edited by Harford20; 05-05-2016 at 11:03 AM. Reason: Add extra |

Great thread all around!! I don't think I have seen this SF Examiner card. Can you tell us the approx size and card stock type? It looks like an 8 x 10 paper premium or a type of flier?

Just a follow-up for Mike.
Your DiMaggio photo pack photo is from 1940. Actually for Dom, the 1941 photo changed significantly (and still had the enlarged signature) Dave Sorry, not sure how to turn the photo |

![]() ...the pose of Dom you just showed , with the left elbow resting on the dugout , is identical to all of mine , except Teddy and Lefty have a chain link fence showing behind them..............all the " signatures" are really small like you said ( Teddy's is absolutely downright tiny ), except Lefty Grove's seems to be a normal size......so then here's the beast from 1940 : ..Thanks . .. |
