I have a T206 red hindu backed Tannehill. PSA declined to grade the card due to its fragility. It has several horizontal creases, including two that are close to being complete tears across the card.
My question is this: Would it be a good idea for me to use scotch tape to reinforce the card, and if I did, do you think PSA would still encapsulate the card ("authentic" would be fine with me). I just want to get the card slabbed to match the rest of my T206s. Also, if I were to reinforce it with tape, should I put the tape on the front or the back? Steve

Heavens no, don't add tape. You ever consider just putting it in a nice two piece?
I have a T205 set that is made up of some horrible beaters and skins. I packaged them nicely and they present ok. You can see how I did it at www.bbcard1.com/205. Look at the How it's done section. |

I have seen tickets with tape slabbed as authentic, signed cards slabbed as authentic (dual meaning I guess for auto and card grade), and I've attached an example of a Ruth with tape slabbed as Authentic (with apologies to whomever owns the Ruth). So yes, they will.
If it does not bother you, I guess go for it. As for me, I would prefer the card without tape. Have you tried SGC or Beckett? BVG has an insert that would enclose the card (further protection) and then it is slabbed so they might be a good choice as well. Mike Last edited by vthobby; 08-12-2015 at 07:13 PM. |

you've basically answered your own question with your choice of the attributive prefix 'pseudo'. Etymologically, from the Greek pseudes, 'pseudo' means false in the sense of lying. Granted, in English there are quite a range of translations often originating from particular disciplines. Some fields are quite overt about the negative connotations of the prefix,e.g. historiography. Others are a bit more nuanced and less overt,e.g. mathematics and pharmacology.
Having said these things, I would say that your language which offers us a sense of your sensing of the taping as an act of lying answers your own question with a resounding NO TAPE. all the best, Barry |

Once you add the tape you might get that knocked down to an 8.

Duct tape on the front and back is the best reinforcement.

Actually I'm glad Barry chimed in on this thread, as well as Andy. I differ with both.
There is nothing pseudo about my example and duct tape on one side only seems to work just fine. My recommendation is duct tape and www.finestgrading.com ![]() ![]() ![]() Entertaining offers on my GEM MINT O'Doul via PM, email or instagram.

I don't think I would ever use tape on a card but I have used tiny pieces of archival tape to reinforce display pieces, or letters, a few times. I only use it when it is where a piece about to fall off or there will be significant more harm caused if nothing is done. If it is even close to being ok, while being left alone, then that is what I do.
But "no" to tape on cards. Good luck.

If you are really concerned with making sure it is consistent with the rest of your set, have you considered just putting it into an empty PSA slab yourself? That way it will match the rest of your set but you don't have to worry about "fixing it." If you really need to secure it first because of condition issues, you could try penny sleeves first?

Thank you to everyone for the advice (even the not so serious ones; I got a few good laughs out of those
![]() Leon's comment "If it is even close to being ok, while being left alone, then that is what I do." hit the nail on the head regarding the card. I'll leave the card alone. I have it in a penny sleeve and a Card Saver I, where it will remain. Steve
