The following came as part of a lot I won in REAs Spring auction and it is described as circa 1916 Native American baseball team, believed to be players from the Onondaga Nation. The letters "OAC" appear on most of the jerseys. I'm looking for any information on this team. Could OAC stand for "Onondaga Athletic Club" or similar?

Joe,
Here is an article referencing the OAC. It is about Lacrosse but shows you that OAC existed in that region. http://wnywebshop.com/ploetz/TheOrig...canPastime.htm I found another photo in front of a house with some references but the logo is different. http://beta.worldcat.org/archivegrid...data/879467009 OAC could also mean Ohio but I think upstate NY is correct for the photo you have. Sorry I could not be of more help. Mike |

Joe, you might want to try contacting the Iroquois Indian Museum --
http://www.iroquoismuseum.org/ Their featured exhibit in 2008 was "Baseball's League of Nations," which is still intact as a travelling exhibit -- http://media.wix.com/ugd/a9b581_02d8...8467e444b2.pdf The material, when we saw it, was not annotated or documented in much detail, and the very friendly and courteous museum personnel on hand were not very knowledgeable about the baseball material, but they might be able to put you in touch with someone affiliated with the museum, or some of the donors of the baseball stuff, who could provide better insight. Mike, funny you should exhume that article. It's been 40 years since we spent an afternoon with Wes Patterson, but what a memorable afternoon that was. What a guy!
