Hey guys,
when it comes to signed cards, do you prefer sharpie or ballpoint pen for your autographs? I prefer ballpoint pen for vintage cards/players and sharpie for newer cards/players. do you have a preference? thanks

Always prefer pen. It took me forever to find a Maris I liked that wasn't signed in sharpie. Look at this beauty:

For the most part i prefer blue sharpie or stadler as I think it makes the signature pop. Hate seeing a dark card with a ballpoint signature as it can be hard to see

So long as the signature is bold, I'm happy, so usually that means sharpie. But, if I can find a bold fountain pen signature, then that takes the cake.

I prefer a sharpie, although nice bold ball point signature on the right card is hard to beat.

As Scott has said above, a bold fountain pen signature takes the cake.

thanks guys for your responses i appreciate it. ive noticed that some of my sharpie autographs seem to have faded over time (they have been stored in the dark out of sunlight) does anyone else have trouble with faded sharpie autographs? thanks

I haven't had that problem with my on-card autographs. Baseballs signed in sharpie do bleed though.

I've seen it happen with cards with high gloss. A lot of times if I'm getting a modern card signed I'll use a dry erasure on it before signing to buff off some of the gloss.

Prefer pen on balls and cards. Sharpie for the rest.

On vintage cards, GPC's & index cards, fountain pen when possible or ball point pen.
On photos, tickets or other modern pieces Sharpie (usually blue, but sometimes black) |

Sharpie is an abomination.
Fountain pen for vintage, ballpoint for contemporary. |

Agree with David, sharpie sucks!!! Love the old vintage fountain pen!!!!! There is nothing better than a nice authentic Ruth fountain pen check!!!! IMO
