Offered here is Lot 3 of my auctions ending on July 15th at 9 PM CST
1956 was a magical year for the "Commerce Comet". Mantle had a self procalimed "favorite summer" and it was indeed a breakout year after five years playing for the infamous Bronx baseball club. Mantle most assuredly had one of the most statistical laden seasons of his era, hitting a robust .353 while belting 52 home runs and raking in 130 runners to home plate. The meteoric numbers provided him not only the American League MVP award in 1956, but also the coveted triple crown. The 1956 Topps Mantle card is highly regarded by collectors on many counts. In addition to being a striking card with an exceptional design, this card dates from Mantle's Triple Crown season. Many consider this to be the quintessential Mantle card. Presented herein is a non superb - low end example of the gray-back variety of this classic Mickey Mantle card. Quite possibly one of the roughest examples Extant! Rounded Corners, several creases rough edges. While not professionally graded by any authentication company, we are confident this would receive the "MK" designation due to the pencil scratching across the name of Mickey Mantle in the upper left hand portion of the card. most likely a reflection of some young collector from yester-year and his dislike of The Mick. Don't let this opportunity slip by! This one of a kind Mantle starts at just $1 with bids in any whole dollar increments! Don't delay, this auction ends promptly at 9 PM Central Standard Time on July 15th, 2015. No bids will be accepted after this time, there is no 15 minute rule. Bids may be posted here, I unfortunately do not accept email or faxed bids. I will not provide a call back service for this auction. Buyer agrees to pay 0% buyers premium but will be responsible for $3 for shipping and handling via USPS. ![]() ![]() |

If my bid holds up, I am going to donate the card to the kid's collection. I remember as a kid in the 1970s when ever I got a vintage cards from the 1950s or 1960s how over the moon i was. It didn't matter if it was a common or a star, a high number or low number. Such an innocent thrill can only come from a kid, sadly some out grow it. I have not nor have I forgotten it!

Thanks, but it is not my son. It is Brad's. It is wonderful that he has a dad that goes to bat for his son. I support that all the way! When I was a kid, my mom always supported my card collecting and never threw my cards out. (as long as they're never out and in the way).

I did not start this "distraction", Brad did. I support his cause, as should all on this forum who helps each other out. My bid stands at my highest, I have to keep in mind the cards condition. This is not a fund raiser, but the opportunity for a kid to add this card to his collection. I hope that all agrees. I apologize if my stance has cause the seller to lose out, but I feel my bid, especially when you consider the opening bid and and cards condition is very fair. Had this card been for my collection, I would not have bid at all, since I do not as a rule put cards in this condition in my collection. I never stated that anyone should not bid or retract bids. I just feel that a kid is far more importnant then money. Also, if someone really wants this card, they should just disregard my bid and continue on.. Thanks....

I side w/ Ben on this one.
Tom, I totally respect your idea to donate to young collector, but it should be done in silence and mentioned after you won. Many would consider this as auction interference, which is a strict no-no.

Tom - your gesture is very nice and I truly appreciate your thought.
I was simply trying to get the ball rolling for the seller's auction because I enjoyed his creative writeup. In the process I was "making conversation" and sort of thinking out loud because my son has taken great interest in baseball history and has started his own little HOF collection. I never expected to win the auction with a $5 bid, I was simply acknowledging that the condition of this card is perfect for the early stages of my son's collection. I guess it breaks some sort of auction code. I won't do that anymore. |

I didn't mean to break any codes either. I remember going to shows as a kid in the 1970s and dealers and collectors, grown men who would step on a kid just to get some stupid card. It made me sick. In the late 1980s, there was a dealer at a show called "Stump The Man". You show him the front of any card and just the cap and he could tell you the players name. I just happened to have a box of cards with me and I came across a kid who was dreaming of the prize the man was offering. I decided to help the kid and we carefully selected a card. Well a crowd formed as the man struggled to identify the player. We gave him all of the time he needed but finally conceded. He was pissed, but the kid got his card and I was beyond happy. By the way, the card that stumped the man.. A 1973 Topps Billy Gogolewski.
I am very pleased your son has found baseball and appreciates it's rich history. It was just like me, I can relate! Last edited by 1963Topps Set; 07-12-2015 at 08:45 PM. |

Dave I am truly sorry for adding another non bidding post in your sales thread.
Tom Reed you are an IDIOT quit posting in people sales threads. This is not the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd time you have done this, sadly you do it on a regular basis. If you are not asking a question about buying the item, saying I will take it, or entering a bid amount do everybody a favor and quit posting in the B/S/t section. |

I was just responding to a previous post. Insulting me is also a forum violation. I am done here. I will not be posting in this forum at all anymore.
