I started collecting in 1991. Sometime in 1992 I got my first price guide. At the time, my most valuable card in my collection was the 1992 Topps Brien Taylor:
![]() At the time he was a hot rookie and this card was $3 book value. For comparison, Nolan Ryan was $1 book value. This card is now a common and pretty much worthless. For about a year or so after that, it was my most valuable card. Some time later I got a few different $5 cards, but none that I remember specifically. The next card that I can recall as being my most valuable was a 1993 Fleer Ultra Ken Griffey Jr All Star, which at the time was $15 and was the most valuable card of my collection. I don't remember how I got it, but i think t was in one of those variety blister packs sold at walmart type stores. This card is now worthabout $6 according to ebay auction closing prices. The next card in my collection to become most valuable was the 1992 Donruss Update Kenny Lofton: ]img]http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/MTEwNVg4MTU=/z/ibEAAOxyRhBS5dmC/$_12.JPG[/img] I acquired this card through a 1992 Donruss factory set. Each set has 8 or so Update cards included as a bonus. Back in 1994 or so Kenny Lofton was hot, and this card was worth $40 when I first got it, and as I recall once worth at a maximum of $80. The above image is from an ebay auction that was Buy-It-Now at $2.00 and didn't sell. The next card to get the crown was a 1996 Topps Chrome Refractor Roger Clemens. ![]() I pulled it out of a pack I got out of a grocery store checkout isle. I remember being ecstatic and telling my mom "I got a refractor" and she having no idea what I was talking about. At the time it's book value was $60. Now you can get one on ebay for about $15. Then I stopped collecting some time around 1997. I recently started back up, but I have yet to attain a card worth more than $60. |

I don't know about real market vallue but to get me to part with my only known 1990 Score Wade Boggs/Roger Clemens wrong back error pair featuring my 2 all time favorite players would cost way more than most new cars.

Mine isn't autographed, but still my favorite and the most valuable in my collection. For modern cards my most valuable, and favorite, is a 86 Fleer Jordan rookie in PSA 8.

Thanks Brent, I still think I'd rather have yours though. Out of curiosity, you don't need to tell me what you paid, but what do you feel the autographed 33 Ruth is worth? I'd love to add an autographed one to the collection some day.

Thanks Matt. I'm sure we all know what your most valuable card is, but you should post it here for those who don't.

Ha yea he's got a couple we'd all love to have. But for the purpose of this thread I think one is clearly the most valuable.

Thanks, homies. Appreciate the good vibes. These would be the two-- though I must admit that whenever a T210 Shoeless appears, I get very tempted to try and make a move for it, which would necessitate essentially "trading out" one of these two beloved pieces, and then circling back later to replace it. However I then always remind myself how these are the two dream specimens for the way I collect...and so round and round I go, LOL! But dizzying ourselves with baseball card thoughts is always a joy in and of itself-- much preferable to real life stress or work stress
![]() And Brent, where to begin with that website! The middle name sig on the Mick, the Ruth, the bold Joe D, and that DeLong Lou-- as a Yankee fan it's a museum to enjoy. So many of everyone's favorite, iconic cards, and each touched by the hand of the man/subject himself! It takes years of expertise and experience to know what to look for in each of those autos, and to gather them all in one place, a true case of the sum being far greater and more impressive than the already-impressive parts. ![]() Last edited by MattyC; 07-09-2015 at 08:09 PM. |

Preist-- did you collect any sets in 1991 or just individual cards ? The 1991 Topps set has always been an interesting one for me. The 40th anniversary issue, and the redemption possibilities for all the prior sets and individual cards. Plus collecting a set of every possible front and back variant of that set is virtually impossible. And then the Desert Shield set to boot.
Now that you are collecting again, what are your goals ? Last edited by ALR-bishop; 07-03-2015 at 08:37 AM. |

Most valuable? Probably either my 1907 Dietsche Fielding Pose Cobb, PSA 5; or 1923 Lections Babe Ruth.

By far my most valuable is a 1933 Delong Lou Gerhig I found misused on eBay years ago back when you could find deals if you know how to look. It doesn't really fit my current collection but I doubt I'll ever get rid of it. It freakin Lou Gerhig!
