Tintypes were popular from the 1860's onward. Any insights that might narrow down the time frame of this one based on their hats and other attire, equipment, or even the building behind them?

From my little bit of experience I would say it's an early one. I will throw a total swag guess at circa 1870-75....... based on the caps, bats and the building in the background. Maybe one of our more tuned in 19th century guys will give a more fact based answer?

Thanks. In fact, it originated in an album of CDV's (and more tintypes), so your estimate fits with what else it came with. Anyone else?

If you show some of the CDVs, that would help confirm the date. Leon's opinion sounds fair to me.

The person I bought it from only pulled the baseball tintype from the sale, not the non-sports CDV's.

It's hard with only street clothes, but that top hat stands out as old style.

My initial thought is right there with Leon. I would say c. 1870

Check years of Spalding catalogues that show jockey style baseball caps.

Definitely 1870s. Forget Spalding you want to check Peck and Snyder catalogs. Here's two photo I could find
