It looks like there's more vintage autograph collections here than modern, but I figured I'd share my (sadly not finished) 1999 Upper Deck MVP set. Who else out there is collecting complete signed sets?

Nice Kyle!
I don't have the patience to do a bigger set,but thought about doing a small subset.

Very nice. 99 and 2000 MVP is a very underrated design. 2000 MVP was the first box I opened and I bet the odds by getting an auto (Ed Yarnell but it was an auto.) Have the card still too.

I have finished two Rookie Sets-the 2003 UDPP set and the 2008 Razor set, also the 2005 AFLAC set, but that was less than 10 cards.
All completed sets are in my photobucket. I was easier as i lived near a minor league stadium that sold seats for as low as a $1. Great job on finishing that tougher set. |

I've been working on 1990 Leaf (80% done) and 1992 Fleer Ultra (70% done) sets since they came out. Sadly, I've come to the conclusion that I just can't afford to finish them off so I may be putting them up for sale soon.
Also very close to a complete 1992-93 Upper Deck Hockey set (92% complete) that I'm trying to convince myself I can finish... |

1990 leaf is an amazing set for autographs. You should try your best to hang onto that one imo. I tried to get all of the Mariners signed from that set. I think I came up 2 or 3 short, with the Griffey being one of them.

I am nearly done with 1988 Score, 660-card Regular set and 110-card Traded set. I also work on smaller subsets like 1985 Topps USA cards and the Donruss Diamond Kings from 1982 through 1991.

This is a cool approach to collecting a set. A little crazy, maybe, but cool all the same
![]() I know I don't have the drive to do an entire set. I've considered trying to do a team set though, and am still kicking that idea around still. Cool projects everyone -- anyone have a gallery/site dedicated to their quest? |

Thanks! I just wish I knew how to add to the collection. I'm pretty much stuck at this point at 38 signed poses (not including Mrs. Matty & Mrs. McGraw on their husband's cards).

Once upon a time, I was selling a number of signed 1950's Topps cards, and one of the buyers indicated he was working on his THIRD signed set of 1958 (I think that was the year) Topps, having already completed two!

Working on a 1984 Topps set, but I don't know if it can be completed. A ton of multi-player cards and one player who has been hiding in Europe from federal authorities for maybe two decades now. I have about 225 different so far...

I was working on 2 sets at a time for myself and one for my brother. 1969 topps is my birth year set and I got about half way before I sold it. Too much money for guys like Mantle, Mays, Clemente and knowing if they are authentic or not. My brothers set is his birth year 1974 topps, and I have about 140 done. Right now I am currently working on the 1976 topps set and have 337 cards signed from the base set and traded set combined. I am a member of a sports autograph site and we do 50/50's where I will send 10 cards and they will send 5 back signed and I could knock off the 76 set when players were coaching in certain areas. If anyone has any 1976's and would be interested in trading or selling, let me know.

Been working on 5 autographed sets for the last 30 years. The 1986 Topps set is complete. The only blemish there is that Luis Sanchez signed his on the back.
The 1987 Topps needs Rickey Wright, 1985 Topps needs Al Williams. 1986 Donruss is missing Rick Camp. The 1987 Fleer is lacking only one. It's the Aase/Righetti card that I've got signed by each, but not both. UHG! |

I will be selling off about 30,000 signed cards over the next few months. Most were IP and some TTM, some toughies. If you send me a relatively short lists of cards you need to complete sets post 1969- and are serious about buying I will see what I have. I do have quite a few multisigned. List price you will pay next to each card as I probably won't take the time if you are only willing to pay a few dollars for a specific card. Send it to my email theshleps@aol.com as it will make it easier

I'm new to the forum. I started in the '60's taking cards to the ball parks in Florida during the Spring and mailing to the players via their clubs.
In the '70's I used Jack Smallings' address list and mailed out hundreds of cards to the players at home. TAR put me in contact with other autograph collectors with whom great relationships were established. In the late '70's I offered my services as a photographer to a small weekly paper and that gave me the opportunity to apply for press credentials during Spring training. That was an incredible time for me. Card shows in the 80's allowed me access to some of the West coast players that seldom came to Florida. Golf tourneys in the Winter were great opportunities. It just kind of grew until one day I had some pretty good percentages of sets from '51 Bowman thru '75 Topps. I was lucky as a kid living in Ft Myers where the Pirates trained. I got three Clemente cards signed- '64 Topps Giant, '61 Topps, '63 Topps. The bigger problem in those days was getting the older cards for the players to sign rather having access to them! I think my story is similar to other collectors out there. The '33 Goudeys posted were really impressive. I remember meeting an older gentleman from St Pete at a card show years ago. He had a many of the Goudeys signed, most of the biggies and was about to sell them to a dealer that weekend for more than he ever dreamed they were worth-and a fraction of their value now! I'm still looking for the tough guys in many of the sets. I have duplicates to trade and would enjoy the chance to touch base with other collectors. Good luck to all! |

I thought the '58 Topps with the solid background would be very accommodating for signatures. The 58's are also the first set that I actually remember buying off the counter at Al's Confectionary, at the corner of Plymouth and Hodiamont.
When the 1978 Grand Slam card set with player addresses came out, I included an extra card with each mailing, usually a '58 Topps. With this method I acquired 40 '58's. In 2001, I made the crazy decision to get them all autographed. At this point, I am 9 cards shy of complete autographed set and probably as complete as I will get. |

So, I figured I should have a card signed by both Mr. Smiths. In the scans above there is the same situation with Milt Bolling. It is the picture of Lou Berberet signed by both players. Just completed the 1986 Topps set now that Doug Flynn signs his card.
The 1985 Topps just needs that darned Virgil father/son card, while the 1987 Fleer is lacking the Aase/Righetti card, and the 1986 Donruss is missing the Rick Camp card. Any ideas there? |

The five sets I have are all from 1985, 86, and 87. Because it's mostly the same guys, I sure would like to trade one of the sets for something different, even if it was newer, or older with less percentage of the set signed.
If anyone is interested or has an idea, send me a personal message. Maybe we can work something out. I also collect HOF signatures. The collection is pretty advanced, but I'm always looking for upgrades. |

I've been working on 1963 Fleer baseball, though I don't ever expect to complete it.I know it isn't a very big set relative to what y'all are working on, but I am not an autograph collector, so it is just about the right size for me. I just received my 34th card today (out of 66 cards in the set.) There is probably a dozen more out on EBay that I need, although the condition on most of them is not great. There is also a Koufax for $600 OBO. That is a bit rich for my blood at the moment, though I might be inclined to send the card in if he ever does another public signing.
Cards I don't ever expect to get, because of availability or cost, include: Mays, Drysdale, Adcock, and Clemente. I think this one is my favorite: ![]() Last edited by carlsonjok; 07-03-2014 at 04:54 PM. |

Wow, some of y'all have some great, large sets signed. Pretty impressive to get a 792 card set signed.
The only complete signed set I have is 1981 Donruss Golf, however, it's only sixty something cards. I used to have a near complete run of the 82 and 83 Wrestling All Star cards signed but when prices for those started to get so high, I got tempted and sold several. Wrestling collectors are die hard and pay a lot more $$$ with a lot less hassle for relatively modern guys. Last edited by thenavarro; 01-31-2015 at 10:59 PM. |

First time poster here.
I started trying to put together a signed 1953 Topps set last summer. So far I'm about 30% of the way there. I've been able to verify that at least 268 of the cards exist signed. My goal for 2015 is to get to 100, which I should hit easily (I started the year with 68). The link to my collection is in my signature, along with some other signed vintage cards I have.
