I am learning so much from everyone on this board, thanks. This one confused me a little bit and wanted to get some opinions. When you look at the front of the card it's nice, most likely higher than the grade given. However the stamp on the back obviously lowers the grade and value. I struggle because when I look at this card with previous sales that are graded a 1, they look like crap, usually lots of creases and pretty ugly. So aesthetically this has nice appeal but I never know how much to bid on something like this. I don't want to overpay so I struggle. Should I pay the price for front of the card aesthetics Is this stamp as egregious as paper loss?
Buy the card, not the holder but in this case the back of the card is stamped. Thanks in advance. Greg TSG75121_lg.jpg TSG75125_lg.jpg

Hey Greg, that's a nice looking card, especially for the technical grade.
I think you should buy and collect what YOU LIKE, without as much concern for price. If its worth it to you, the price is never wrong. As mentioned, if you find the card aesthetically pleasing, you can't lose. Cheers! Brent |

I look for overall eye appeal. For me, if the stamp was on the front, it would have ruined the card but on the back, really doesn't bother me. That's a nice 'poor'; I would think it would demand a premium over the usual creased, dirty 'poor'.

My guess is that this particular "1" would sell for closer to a "2" price if you put it in a no reserve auctions. I think the back stamp thing is just preference. I'm sure it will keep some people away, but I don't think it will hurt the value as much as paper loss or creasing, which a lot of "1's" tend to have.

I agree, the stamp doesn't bother me one bit in a 1 holder like that. If you can pay a 1 price, or a little above, I think it is nice to have a card in better condition that has some extra history and an owner's stamp over a true 1 that is beat to hell and looks either partially or wholly like crap. Now, if this card was a 5 with a stamp (which generally means it would be a 7 without the stamp) I wouldn't be too interested in paying a big price for it when I could get a 5 I would be perfectly happy with that doesn't have the stamp - to me it is relative. There are actually people who collect the stamps (I have a few because I think they are neat, my PB White is attached). You should check out CobbSpikedMe's awesome site (http://thegreatt206backstampproject.yolasite.com/) for more about stamps.

You can always remove the stamp if it bothers you.

I agree with many of the previous comments. IMO, the stamp just adds character to the card, Don't sweat the fact that the card looks too good for the grade, collect just for YOUR standards.

I agree on the thoughts that errant writing and marks can add a lot of character to a card. My Buck Weaver 1911 Zeenut has a game scored on the back of it, I love it. Depending on the amount of paper loss, there is on the card, most collectors would take a mark or minor writing over the missing paper.....
