You'd think that after an autographed common Nap Rucker portrait sold at REA last year for over $5,000 that more signed T206 cards would be offered up for sale at auction. But, auction after auction (aside from the occasional Marquard) you just don't see them. What is it going to take to shake some of those signed beauties free? Where have all the signed T206 cards gone?

Because you have them all! I have one :-(
If I could have any collection out there, it would be yours; all day everyday. My favorite collection on net54. You should show them again sometime. Haha. |

I am seeing that with not only T206 but alot of other vintage signed. This past 6 months I have only added one card to my lists of wants and that was a 1954 Bowman Willie Mays. Nothing pre war in along time. There are some items like my T201 and T202 I would part with but we all want astronomical prices these days and those of us whose pockets are not that deep won't pay. I don't even know folks besides you, me and 2 or 3 others that have any number of cards and now that I only do HOFers I don't have very many. It is sad as most of our searching is a failure |

Danny-
Great card! That's from the Great Pittsburgh Find of Signed T206s in 2007. Excellent provenance! Contrary to popular belief, I simply do not have them all, but one example of as many as I could get. For instance, that 2007 find had 6 McBrides and 5 Doyle throwings. That means 5 McBrides and 4 Doyle throwings from that collection alone are out there, but not traded. There are plenty more of these out there in other collections. I'm just surprised that with the going rate for a Nap Rucker up in the $5,000 range - I gave up on that one with the bidding at $3K - that more people haven't at least listed their examples on eBay with exorbitant prices. C'mon people! Mrvster - your enthusiasm for collecting (and your praise of my collecting choices) are always appreciated by me at least. The hobby could use a bit more of the joy you bring to every post.

Brendan - thanks so much! Why don't you show your signed T206. I'd be thrilled to see it posted.

Depends a little on condition, but $1,200-$1,500 is what the bidding will get to. I've known private sales of clean examples to go even higher.

I also agree that it is sad that our searching has been a failure in recent years. I just figured that exorbitant prices for signed T206s would bring more to market. I guess something other than dollars is keeping them in private hands.

Paul- you've assembled a superior collection, but with all due respect, signed T206's have never really done anything for me. Pretty cool in theory, but just not my cup of tea. The $5k price for Rucker makes no sense to me whatsoever. Can you explain that to me?

I have a signed Doyle throwing with a pen dot of ink by his name. Part of the great Pgh find of 2007. I'm not near my computer now and I don't think an iPhone allows me to post a picture (???). But I've showed it here a couple of times; my favorite card.
The signed Ricker is pretty simple: supply and demand. Not too many signed T206s come on the market anymore. Plus I think the Rucker is a little unique in that not too many of this pose (signed) exist. And you probably had 2 people battling head to head via auction. Just my 2 cents. |

When 2 people REALLY want something and they are anonymous to each other (or even in the same room) you will get 100 different outcomes if that auction went off 100 times. Add 3 crazy collectors (and I am one) to the mix and you have an atom bomb situation. That card on a different day may have gone for $2500 or maybe even $7000. Who knows! I think that the unknown is half the fun in all this. Peace, Mike ![]() Last edited by vthobby; 01-31-2015 at 08:37 AM. |

Paul- signed T205, 201, 202 are much rarer than T206. Why should 206's command a higher price? Just wondering. The rare oddball signed HOF cards I list go for much less than a topps. I like the rare stuff. When I got maddux and Griffey Jr in person in spring training- I got them on Konami cards. In retrospect maybe I should have gotten them on topps rookies (monetarily) but the oddball stuff is rarer and has more appeal to me. Unfortunately not many feel that way except the people I bought my oddball stuff from

thanks so much for the kind words! I really think that the signed T206 will carry a huge premium in the future! wish I had one, I have just funneled pretty much all my resources into the scraps........just because they are so rare, neat, collectable, have future potential, and are just wild..........very similar to what you are doing...........I almost "feed off" your passion also....
keep up the good work my friend! get another one of those beauties! my scrap machine is always turning..............we might have to have a field day one day.........do not give up.....try to get as many different examples as possible.....my friend is putting together an entire 52 topps auto set, and I am just amazed at it! reason 206 command such a premium, it's the popularity.................. I have an 1895 Mayo Plug Hugh Duffy pictured on Pauls site.I had to give up my T206 signed Cy Yound for it. Is that (Duffy) the oldest front signed card? Who owns the Mack?

That Mack is great. Anyone know if that is a period signature or something from much later in Mack's life?

Apparently they've all gone to ebay. There's a signed EPDG Marquard on the bay right now...

The oldest signed card that I had seen (and bid on but lost) was a Gray's Cabinet card ... right around the old judge era if I remember correctly.

According to the PSA pop report, there is a PSA/DNA slabbed E105 Doyle Throwing somewhere out there in collector land. Does this happen to belong to a board member? I would be ecstatic if I could just see a scan of what is likely the only autographed Mello Mint in existence.

One of my biggest regrets was letting an Adonis Terry signed cabinet photo slip through my fingers on eBay. It didn't even go for that much money.

Yes, I got that too. I've noticed that some seller's have music going on when I click on their auctions, but this happens rarely. Definitely weird imo, but it does happen on occasion.
