You always here how the 50 is the new 40 in terms of age..
Its starting to look like market value was..the PSA 4 1952 Topps Mantle is the new PSA 5 1952 Topps Mantle this year...at least the PSA 4.5.. |

I think some of these 4.5's that are surfacing are incredible. Matty's and this PWCC one look like 7's with that centering.
Centered 52T Mantle's aren't too common. Seeing huge premiums for such incredible examples. Last edited by GregC; 12-11-2014 at 07:06 AM. |

Matt's. while a phenomenal example, seems fairly graded. At least from the scan, the grade on PWCC's seems harsh. I suspect it still has a fair way to go before a final price.

PWCC one is certainly hitting $30k and it would be a bargain at that price. I for one was optimistic it might stay a bit lower with the good old Xmas bonus coming but no such luck LOL. Both are absolutely amazing examples of #311. Last edited by GregC; 12-11-2014 at 07:07 AM. |

When was the last PWCC card that went for less than expected?

In this market an SGC 6 1952 topps mantle would be worth at least $50,000 as PSA 6's have sold recently for over $60,000 in private sales. |

Seller: Thank you for your purchase of the 1952 Mantle SGC 6...please pay by check for the $20,000
Buyer: Thanks I got a good deal, before I pay I would like for SGC to authenticate the card Seller: No can do, my grandmother would be against that. Buyer: I only 'bought' the card to prevent you from taking advantage of others. Seller: The card is real Buyer: Ok, Ill send you a check from Nigeria, I can only write the check for $30,000, so send me the $10,000 overpay and we will be even Seller: Ok, sounds good.....oh wait a minute! 52 topps mantle's have skyrocketed. There were two 52 topps mantle PSA 7 private sales recently for over $100,000. There was another private sale recently of a nice 52 topps mantle SGC 80 for over $60,000. |

The 52 topps mantle PSA 7 recent private sales for over $100,000 each are not recorded in VCP.

And yes, so many cards are sold privately that the VCP data is only part of the equation. Sometimes a very small part, considering private sales. I can confirm a collector with a beautiful collection just sold a 7 for 100k, shortly after upgrading. Can also confirm a centered SGC 6 sale at 50k+. Last edited by MattyC; 12-11-2014 at 11:17 AM. |

I have seen Matt's Mantle in hand and do not believe it would look out of place in a 5. I believe the surface of the PWCC one is the problem while it has sharper corners, the one with better aesthetics is Matt's, it lacks the scuffing in the blue.

I contacted the seller and asked if the sale falls through I interested in a cash deal..-----
---guess the card is still available..this listing looks more and more legit The buyer wants to make payments and that's something I can't do. If you're interested? if deal falls through let me know I can pay cash -kingzofchrome2014 |

I agree the surface and color on Matt's 4.5 is as good as it gets.

.5 grades are pretty uncommon versus the whole grade..yet there are four 4.5 1952 topps mantles on ebay right now and zero 4s...
