Default Game-used MLB balls

I stood in line for 3 innings to purchase a Cano-hit baseball at the Mariners game yesterday. Just wondering - would there be any interest in a 'trading group' of such items? Surely we have collectors from each MLB city, and I'm thinking there are probably some of us who would collect balls by stadium, by player, etc;e.g- it would be pretty cool to have a Felix Hernandez pitched ball from each stadium he appeared in...over the course of a few years or so.

I'm assuming items are priced roughly the same in all stadiums, but I could be wrong. In Seattle, a Cano-hit ball (foul or out) is $75, while a hit is $175. Run-of-the-mill balls are $50 or a little less. Not sure what a Felix-pitched ball goes for.

If there is enough interest expressed in this thread, I will gather names of people located in various cities, and we can contact each other when we are going to be at games where there might be 'balls of interest'.

It's not a bad idea. But most ball collectors, when they want a certain ball will just call the game used store acouple innings later to see if they have it(which I normally do).

I wasn't aware of this trend of selling game used balls by teams, at their stadiums. I'm not aware of the Giants doing it (yet). The ways in which to siphon cash from a fan's wallet are seemingly endless. h

So any game you are watching on t.v. - you just make a call around the bottom of the 5th (that's when they bring the balls up to the store at Safeco), and if they have it, they take your c.c. info and mail it to you?

The way it works at Safeco is that you stand in line around the bottom of the 5th, and when the balls are brought up, 1st person in line gets first pick from the list of balls. They wouldn't save one for me, and everyone in line gets to pick from the list in order. Anyone who called in would have to wait until the line was processed, and I don't know if they would sell it to you over the phone.

I got in line first, and they didn't actually bring the balls up until the 8th. They waited because they only had one Mariner foul-ball - everything else was Rangers. While I was standing in line, Cano hit the double that I ended up with; otherwise, I would have stood in line for nothing.

I'm not sure anyone really understands the point of my thread. Being an Astros fan, I thought it might be cool to get a game-used ball from every stadium they play in next year - could even go for balls hit by each of their starters and thrown by their 5 starting pitchers.....it could just be a massive waste of money

It depends on the team. I know for the mets I have called them. I have tried it with Blue Jays but there main game used person never picks up the phone and Seattle doesn't have a phone right to the game used store.

Also you could have found cheaper Cano hit balls on ebay. Still a cool item, wish he was still a Yankee.

And not all teams do game used baseballs like the M's, Mets, Astros, etc. Teams like Yankees and red sox just do game used baseball from .... game.. No details about who pitched it or to what batter.

Thanks for that information, Brock - makes my plan sound like the most viable for this sort of thing, and we could also include a ticket stub in the deal.

Yes, I could have gotten a cheaper one, but I thought it was good to get one from the game I was at. Also, I doubt I could have gotten a double - singles are pretty easy. I'm not sure that doubles always go for the same as a single, but I had been talking with the guy for quite a while and he might have cut me a slight deal - the same ball was also hit for a double by Morales and Cano also scored a run off that hit. Outs or fouls are simple to find and cheap. If I decide to sell the game-used bat, a double will probably help the price quite a bit.

Not a bad idea Scott. I wasn't ignoring you in my thread of for sale game used balls either. I'm just in a sell sell sell mode, not trade. Hope you're well.

Thanks Jason. I was trying to give you a bump, but when I do that I always try to say something 'useful'. The bump idea gave me the idea for game-used balls, not vice-versa. Also - I'm not thinking 'trading', more like using others on the board as middlemen for picking up stuff. These balls are VERY unpredictable - it's possible, for instance, that you could play an entire 3-game series and never see a ball that a particular player hit. If it's the 3rd out, they end up in the stands, and most fouls end up in the stands anyway. For a ball to end up at the team store, it pretty much has to be thrown in the dirt at some point. For instance, mine was still in the game after two doubles, but then got thrown in the dirt to Kyle Seager and was removed. It could just as easily have been fouled into the stands and then I would have never gotten it.
