Considering that this is one of the largest prewar card communities there is, I thought there was a pretty good chance that at least one member owns a Wagner. I was just curious if anyone on here could verify this?

There are quite a few members here who currently own or have owned the T206 Wagner card. Hope that helps.

If you check Frank's Monster Number thread, you'll see that one of us is mentioned as owning a Wagner.

I read through the Wagner documentation on T206Resouce today.Good stuff, so interesting to read the history of that card and what people were thinking back in the 70s 80s and 90s

Donnie- Believe it or not there is an entire book, 'The Card' written on the subject.

I recall having a chance to buy a Wagner for about $1100 in the early 70s. The only thing that stopped me was I didn't have $1100. But I could have worked it out. It wasn't a dog either. I hate to think what that same card is bringing now. 6 digits, I'm sure.

My mom would not let me buy it. It was all the money i had saved at the time. The guy ended up trading that and either a 1951 or 1952 topps mantle for a "nicer" one which of course when i finally got to see the nicer one 25 years later it was a fake. So the guy traded a real wagner, mantle bowman, or topps rookie for a fake wagner. I honestly dont know which mantle he said rookie but we all know many call the 1952 a rookie. After he made the trade he decided to keep card for his retirement. Probably the worst trade ever. And the guy did not find out until 25 years later when he was retired and decided to sell. Pretty sad story overall.
I was no expert at 12 but i was pretty good and i do believe the first one was real, he was going to let me take it to a few people that would have been able to tell me right away. He showed me the second one did not believe me when i said it was fake then a prominent dealer at the Reading show told him the same thing, as did SGC. |

He's already got one. It's very nice. I told him we already got one. Snicker. Well can I see it? No. Now go away. |

I've mentioned it on here many times but... my father had 3 Wagners, though not all at the same time. Sold his last one in the 80's. I probably saw it when I was very little but have no recollection.

Over the years I like my peers have had the chance to partake of a thousand Wagners...but alas I've passed as they've merely been reprints or downright forgeries.
