He will, only needs like 50 hits to pass Yaz and Wagner, wont catch up to Speaker who is some 150 hits ahead of Derek. He will be 6th by the end of the year. That is if he stays on the field

Rank Player (yrs, age) Hits Bats
1. Pete Rose (24) 4256 B 2. Ty Cobb+ (24) 4189 L 3. Hank Aaron+ (23) 3771 R 4. Stan Musial+ (22) 3630 L 5. Tris Speaker+ (22) 3514 L 6. Cap Anson+ (27) 3435 R 7. Honus Wagner+ (21) 3420 R 8. Carl Yastrzemski+ (23) 3419 L 9. Derek Jeter (20, 40) 3356 R 10. Paul Molitor+ (21) 3319 R He needs 63 to pass Yaz, 64 to pass Wagner. Then 79 to pass Anson. So it is possible to get to 6th, but again he has to play.

They were just talking about that on the Sirius/XM MLB station. Girardi was quoted as saying he's not here to run a farewell tour. They mentioned his at bats at Wrigley, how he saw mainly fastballs, yet only went 1 for 7 in the Wednesday game. I attended it, he did drive the ball a couple times though.

I feel he will end up #7. I'm just hoping he will play when he comes to Oakland in mid June. I got tickets right behind the Yankees dugout.

I'll say he takes Anson's place.

Right now, on July 6th, Jeter is only like 36 hits behind Anson. Unless he stops playing due to an injury, he passes him no problem. He will wind up 6th easily, but no real shot at 5th. A shame he lost all of last year, he would have had a shot at Musial with one more year.

Thanks for the data. I wonder if any player with 3,000+ hits ever batted higher on the road than at home? I'm sure I could eventually find the info. but you seem to have this information more readily available than I do. Thanks for sharing.

I'll check on BaseballRefernce.Com on the individual player page, then click on splits, then career.

DIMAGGIO & GEHRIG also did it, but finished with less than 3,000 hits. Missing it by a single percentage point were MAYS & HORNSBY Biggest home advantage - BOGGS at 52 points Biggest home disadvantage - GEHRIG at 22 points |

Thanks for the update. Interesting to see the biggest home advantage and disadvantage. Gehrig was a definite gamer on the road.
