Mike Trout hit a line drive into left that bounced off Yoenis Cespedes' glove. Cesepedes picks it up in foul territory and launches it home.
The article says 300' but it's 340' down the line and it doesn't look like Cespedes is 40' from the wall. It looks closer to 320'-330'. Unbelievable throw. ![]() http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/11...hailed-special |

Wow...the catcher didn't have to move an inch! Those Cuban arms...(I'm also thinking of Puig's accurate rifle).

I heard about this throw. It is even more impressive than I expected. His arm reminds me of Vladimir Guerrero.

Great throw, but doesn't it look like he slid under the tag?

Unbelievable top notch defensive plays always take the cake in my book! Awesome throw! Could watch it over and over and over again.
Then images of Bo Jackson pop into my head - Wow! I will always remember that warning track throw to get Harold Reynolds at the plate - the single best baseball play I have ever seen in my life! |

Pretty incredible throw!
That reminds me of a Bryce Harper toss made last year. ![]() These kinds of plays don't show up in the box score (well, they do, but you really have to be looking for outfield assists), but they can have the same impact as hitting a home run. As a huge fan of Roberto Clemente, it does my heart good to see players making the same kinds of throws he did in his day. I truly appreciate great defense.

There's a home plate angle out there, that shows him tagged out in time.
It was also reviewed and upheld. Amazing how he dropped that throw in right over Kendricks head as he was running down the line. He supposedly made another great throw the next night to nab Pujols, but I have not seen it. |

I've idolized Roberto since I was a kid. I know how great he was both offensively and defensively. In fact, I just made this statement a few days ago on the thread I started about my ten favorite vintage cards: Quote:

Well said, I share your opinion. My favorite description of Clemente was written by David Maraniss. He wrote that reducing Clemente to statistics is like a chemist explaining the beauty of a painting by merely analyzing the paint.

Mike - thanks for those videos. Loved the Clemente and Ichiro videos.

Equating a defensive play made by Yoenis Cespedes to those made by Roberto Clemente is most certainly sacrilege....
