I have an Al Kaline bat that I am trying to research and find out if it is a game-issued bat or game-used bat. Here are a few photos of the knob. The knob is painted black but it has stamped AK4 with L V J H.
I can take more for your review. If any one can help me out or point me in the right direction for answers, I will appreciate all you're help. Thanks Ben |

It's just a store model.

the AK obviously are for Al's initials and the 4 indicates the bat is 34" in length. As pointed out, it is a store model bat......

Any Louisville Sluggers from the 1970s era that have the players initials and a number like yours are store model bats. These are bats that were generally available in any sporting goods store back then. Mantle, Jackie Robinson, Yastrzemski, Aaron, Clemente, were all common to find in the stores. The bats were made to the player's pattern, and came in varying lengths from 32" to 35".
For example RC3 = Roberto Clemente 33" MM5 = Mickey Mantle 35" JR2 = Jackie Robinson 32" |
