Does anyone have a Vintage team playing in your home town? I recently came across this Team schedule with 8 Vintage teams scattered from Nashville to Knoxville and in between, then went to their website for a view. Very interesting as these fellas go authentic down to how they play and what they wear... Do any of you have a league like this in your home town or is this specific to Tennessee?
http://tennesseevintagebaseball.com/ - Check out the Nashville Maroons Team pic & player nicknames... Very authentic.

I try to take the family to the Annual Copper City Classic Vintage Base Ball Tournament every year. If I didn't spend all of my life outside work coaching Little league baseball I'd try to play in it. It's really cool.

I mention the one here in Cleveland from time to time. They play some of the games at League Park, and use 1865 rules.. Haven't been to a game yet, but I bet it would be a good time. This year's schedule isn't up yet, but the website's pretty cool if you poke around a bit. Gotta bunch of goodies in regards to the history of the stadium, and a bunch of stuff about 19th century baseball in Cleveland.

The Boston area had a few local events; one was at George’s Island last summer that included two teams in vintage 19th century uniforms playing a game for the afternoon.

Hey there, found this thread online and thought I'd add some info. I'm with the Eclipse Base Ball Club of Elkton based in Elkton, MD. We play by 1864 rules in the Mid Atlantic Vintage Base Ball Association. http://www.elktonbbc.com
To Jay Wolt, we host the Gettysburg Festival and yes its a great time, thanks for the good words about it. This year will be the 5th time we hold the event. Draw teams as far as Texas and its a ton of fun. Hope we could meet up at some point if you come again. If I can be of any help to people looking to play in the PA, MD, NJ, NY area, I can try to send you in the right direction. The TN gents have a great program and are easily found online. Huzzah! |

When I was doing Civil War reenacting here in St. Louis, we had a team show up at an event and play a pick up game with us.

Bay Area Vintage Baseball plays by 1886 rules. I used to occasionally watch them play in Golden Gate park when I lived a few blocks from there.

This season will be my 5th with the Wyandotte Stars BBC. We play by the rules of 1867 and play in about 25 matches a season. With '67 rules we play by the fly and not the bound (you can catch any fair or foul ball on one bounce to put the runner out). I have broken a few fingers playing shortstop, but oddly, only on thrown balls and not batted. We have guys aged 23 to 64 with an average of around 40 or so. I couldn't imagine a summer not playing. It is so much fun. The only bummer this season is that I will be limited to two days at the National because of a tournament up North that I can't miss.
This is a pic of my teammates and I (middle) just yesterday in the pit under a high school gym. Cannot get enough cuts and can't wait for the weather to break. Best, Andy |

I've been a member of the Athletic Baseball Club of Philadelphia for the past two seasons. About to start the 3rd. We play by 1864 rules. What I tell everyone is that now that you have heard about vintage base ball, you will realize it is played by a lot more people than expected. There are teams all over the place!
Responding to some of the threads so far, the Conan bit is fantastic. Played in a tourney at those fields up in Old Bethpage...really fun place to play some base ball. Played in the Gettysburg event last year...another great tournament! I believe one of Eddie Plank's grandchildren was there to throw out the opening pitch. Flemington Neshanock-great bunch of guys to play against! Our team is hosting a Vintage Base Ball Festival September 6-7th in Philadelphia this year with at least a dozen teams from the Mid-Atlantic region coming in. Bunch of vendors, two days of baseball...let me know if anyone wants more information. You can check out our regular season schedule on our website. Our team website: www.phillyvintagebaseball.org/ The league website is: http://mavbbl.com/ |
