I hate graded cards, and I don't collect T206s, so with that having been said :
when I look at those two cards I see a nice looking card that sold for more than a card that doesn't look as nice. And, to complicate matters (at least in regards to the OP's point), the card that sold for more, was sold by a seller who has a history of getting higher prices than others for his items. Doug |

Nice sale by Probstein, but it was an aberration. All the other recent Tolstoi backs in the that grade (Non-HOF or Black Sox) fall in line with the SGC Murphy no matter the TPG.
Congrats on winning the SGC copy. The PSA sale should boost your VCP average. ![]()

Rick seems to have some sort of cult going on and not sure that one example can be used to define reality..... Even at the exact same pricing - I would have preferred the SGC Slab.

I find that many Tolstoi's are faded and off center. bold, centered examples are a little tougher to come by, i think. so back collectors would pay more for the PSA example here, especially since the SGC 50 looked a little dirty on the top of reverse.

Edit to original tag line from Proof to Wow... I prefer SGC to PSA so the "Proof" made it seem like I preferred PSA or this was "proving" something.

For me, I would not look at Probstein sales when making this kind of analysis. I feel all three big TPGs do a decent job. Any given card, seller and holder can have a different ending. There are too many variables.
I should mention that many of the registry related cards do, however, do better in PSA holders because of their registry.

Probstein(for whatever reason), sells cards for much more on average than anyone else in auctions. More power to him and his consigners if they get paid.

FWIW I got paid within 48 hours when I consigned with Probstein. He was very professional all the way thru, providing a spreadsheet before and after the auction showing everything and paying immediately. There are a couple of major auction houses that could learn a lot from him.

Unless it was meant in jest, the title of this thread is a pretty reductive, if not specious, conclusion to draw from those two auctions. Different sellers, with different followings, different cards.
It should be more about actual cards and their eye appeal, and less about what plastic case, what grade, or how much. |

I wonder how many people here clicked the "Bid History" button for the PSA auction...

IMO SGC just looks better, and I prefer to have their slabs as a buyer.
as a seller, I might think. about cracking them out and getting a generic expensive clear one from PSA.
