With Leon's approval, RMY Auctions is running a Network54 contest to give away a premium 1928 Babe Ruth photograph as the prize. The image (pictured below) is dated from Spring Training showing the Babe taking some hacks straight off his famous 60 Home Run Season. Issued by Acme Newspictures, this is a beautiful first generation photo in nice shape with an estimated value in the $300-$500 range. It will be given completely free to the Winner.
BACKGROUND: www.RMYAuctions.com is lucky enough to have the opportunity as fresh archives hit the market to be able to dig through these and bring out the best images for our quarterly "Premier" Auctions and also our "Monthly" Auctions as well. Although we have access to hundreds of thousands of photographs, we will NEVER sell more than 1000-1200 during our premier auctions and 200-500 for our Monthly Auctions. We want to make sure that the buyer is getting a quality product that will hold its value. When these archives arrive there are boxes and boxes FILLED with photographs to go through (most archives are between 500,000-1,000,000 photos). While most are not "collectible" to the average person, you never know what you are going to find (A 1928 Babe Ruth for example might be in a box filled with local interest stuff that is better suited for the landfill)! Which brings us to the contest......... CONTEST: Posted you will find a standard Bankers Box (about 15.25 linear inches) packed with vintage 1910's-1930's news-service images. These are exactly as we would find them from an archive that we get to look through in our quest to find the "best of the best". The contest is simple. Closest to the exact number of photographs in the box wins the Babe Ruth photograph! No "Price is Right Rules", it is just straight closest wins. Our "Premier" Auction is going on right now and the contest ends at 8PM Eastern Time on Saturday Night (which is the time our Premier Auction goes into extended bidding). We will count the photos in the box on Sunday and post the results on Sunday Evening and announce the winner. Post your answers here on the forum. Good Luck and to check out our Premier Auction, register (it takes about 2 minutes) and see 1000 lots of some of the best images the hobby has to offer, go to: www.RMYAuctions.com
