I picked up these three photos for what I thought were incredible prices, the Gehrig especially since it is when the second earliest known photograph of him and the Mantle is the 500th home run.
JoeyF1981, great Gehrig Burke photo, well done on that pick up, I probably cost you a few dollars on that! Last edited by bobfreedman; 02-02-2014 at 09:56 PM. |

Had my eye on this one, but forgot to bid. Very surprised it went so low:

I thought in general the prices went very low and I am guessing it was the Super Bowl going on at the same time as the closing. Just a guess

My only win.
Lou with Benny Bengough at Lou's house. I have another from the same shoot. Lou benny.JPG I have to say that I was very surprised by the low prices realized for a lot of these pictures. It's especially surprising considering Henry's auctions tend to get unheard of prices. I can't help but wonder if this is just a blip or a retraction of the pricing due to the influx of the volumes of pictures flooding the market now. I know one auction doesn't make a trend, but when prime photos like the Burke Gehrig that Joey won and the rookie Gehrig that Bob won only sold for those prices it makes me scratch my head. Congrats to both of you on fantastic pickups. Bob, I'm curious. You stated that was the second earliest photo of Gehrig. What did you mean? I have seen multiple of him as a child in high school as wall as multiple of him in college playing baseball and football. I have also seen one of Lou as part of the Hartford team. If you're talking about second earliest as a Yankee, what other photo are you thinking of as being first? Both your copy and mine have a slug dated 3/14/23. Additionally yours is stamped 3/18/24. Mine is not stamped. I can't recall a different picture depicting Lou as a Yankee being dated prior to either of these photos. Best, Mark

Very nice pick-up mark...I was actually thinking about bidding on that one. Do you think I got a good deal on the burke gehrig? I wonder if it didnt go for more because of the condition. Henry had some awesome stuff this time around

Joey,
I think you did very well. I didn't bid as I thought it would be way out of my price range. I would've definitely bid on it if I had know it would go in that range. PLMK if you ever want to sell or trade it. Congrats again. Mark

Joey, Bob and Mark,
Those are all great photo pickups! Here are mine: Nolan Ryan Type I two photo pitching sequence from his 1st no-hitter on May 15, 1973. I had previously picked up the other two photos from this sequence in another Yee auction in 2013. Nolan Ryan Type I photo from his historic 383K game on September 27,1973. He's holding up his 383 trophy ball from the game. This is not an uncommon image, but it's the 1st time I've seen a nicer quality vintage photo of this shot. In order to eclipse Sandy Koufax's strikeout standard of 382K's in 1965, Ryan had to strike out 15, pitch 10 innings, and deal with a pulled groin muscle that he got during the game. You think he wanted the record? ![]() Cleveland Indians battery of Don Black and Jim Hegan celebrate in the locker room following Black's no-hitter in 1947. I really like this image. Black's career ended early due suffering to a cerebral hemorrhage not long after he pitched his no-hitter. Last edited by Scott Garner; 02-04-2014 at 05:01 AM. |

As for the Gehrig, you can use this as a reference as I did: http://www.sportscollectorsdaily.com...nia-collector/ Jimmy is one of the foremost experts in Gehrig photos today and I trust his opinion on the Gehrig photo that I had won. I am pretty sure that the earliest photo of Gehrig in a Yankee's uniform is listed on Jimmy's site as well and can be viewed at: http://sportscollectorsdaily.ning.co...the-iron-horse . Good conversation stuff mark, thanks for asking! Bob |

I got smoked on the two Felix Mendelsohn original photos...
I saw that Yee has auctioned some of these in the past - sick that I missed the auctions - if anyone on here won them and is interested in selling them for a profit, please PM me! Chris

I was excited to add this to my previous Yee wins of which I will call my "Clowning in Baseball" Collection. I guess I have always been fascinated with the fan experience of the ballpark and memories and events that happen outside of the the game its self.

Aha! Now I know who has been going after my beloved Baseball Clowns!
![]() I considered bidding on that Jackie Price photo, but held off as I have a closer-cropped print of the same shot already. I did snag this one of Schacht entertaining the troops though:
