About 15 years ago I purchased a Western a Publishing display item from a local bookseller in Racine where Wester published its Little Golden a Book series for children. The item is 4-feet long and measures 16 inches at its highest point. It is completely void of any identifying marks that actually indicate is is from Western Publishing. However, the association comes from the name "Tootle" which appears on the train that is shown on the item. "Tootle" was a children's book that was first published in 1945. The piece isn't that old, but I'd guess its between 40 and 50 years old. It's completely 3-dimensional and besides Tootle, it shows Mother Goose, the fiddling cat, Humpty Dumpty and the three pigs. It is probably not unique - I can't imagine a company commissioning an injection mold for just one piece, but all I've ever seen was a different piece that the same bookseller had for sale. I've attached a few photos to give you an idea of what it looks like, and a close up of one area of damage on the piece. I am asking $250 for the item plus postage, packaging and insurance (though I have to admit because of its size, shape and fragile nature, I don't know how it will be shipped. More photos are available if you're interested.
