At opening bid, but at the hammer + 20% juice, maybe not.

Lots of auctions run longer than that.

I guess I am spoiled bidding in all these auctions that end after 8-14 days.

I will give this auction house credit on one front.... they have really good, accurate scans (at least in the few pages I browsed).

Kudos to their scanner guy.

Yep, on the purchasing side. Went well. Payment is other than credit card and Paypal, if I remember correctly. 20 per cent buyers premium.

yep 20% in fee

A Buyer's Premium equal to 20% of the sale price shall added to all winning bids. For example: if you won a lot with a high bid of $1000, you will be billed $1200.

Final price: $10,600 + 20 percent = $12,720.

Someone got a bargain, in my opinion, on a card with great eye appeal.

I kind of agree Rob...a decent price...perhaps Greg's suspect dealings are affecting his auction results.

How someone could spend even close to that kind of money for any card without seeing the back is beyond me. Any AH that doesn't show back scans is either lazy or hiding something, IMO. And if I'm wrong and they ARE on the up & up, it's still not a chance I'm ever willing to take.

Hmm, not sure. I'm out of the loop on what you mention.

I do think that the market on Goudey Lajoies can be pretty thin at times. It's a tribute card. A lot of 1933 Goudey set collectors don't feel that their sets need one because it was issued in 1934. And I think more people are in the market for higher-grade examples of this card because so many are available. (I also think that there are way more examples of this card than hobby legend would suggest.)

Don't get me wrong; I'm as big of a fan of Lajoie cards as anyone. I just think you can get a bargain on this card if you bide your time and wait for the right opportunity.

During the auction there were very large, hi-res scans of the front and back posted. That didn't factor into the price.

Well, until a 2 or similarly graded card sells for that much, $15,000 is nothing but speculation (or wishful thinking). Who knows, maybe the selling price is spot-on? Tough to say on low- to mid-grade Lajoies. My initial reaction was less than $13,000 is a bargain, especially because the card looks so nice for a 2.

Hmm. No. Could be my iPad. It doesn't like some sites and distorts the amount of info available at times. This instance aside, I stand by my sentiment.
