Phil Bartelme 1932 TLS died 1954 Cardinals Exec U of Michigan A.D. Branch Rickey
Nice TLS on St Louis Cardinals letterhead with terrific content. Letter was originally sent to Cardinals minor league manager Eddie Dyer. It references the financial issues that the Cardinals organization was having at the time, and mentions Branch Rickey several times. This is a really nice TLS with great references to the earliest of minor league systems.
Bartelme was the University of Michigan athletic director from 1909-1921. He was instrumental during this period in bringing Michigan back into what would become the Big Ten conference. He also found a job as head baseball coach for the university's team for a young graduate student by the name of Branch Rickey. Rickey's and Bartelme's careers became intertwined again from the late 1920's until Bartelme's death in 1954.  Asking $100 delivered. Tom C
