I am new to the Net54 board and also new to collecting T-206 cards. Of course I collected cards when I was a kid, but got back into collecting in 1988 when my oldest son brought home a new pack Donruss cards. I am one of the original 1991 OBC collecting club members, over there I am known as “The Guru”, and yes I collect cards in ANY condition. Over the years I have completed my 1952 (no high numbers)-1992 Topps baseball run, and am very close to finishing my 1950s Bowman baseball sets too. During the 2012 National Convention in Baltimore I expanded my wantlist to include basketball hockey and football, and I’ve finished off basically everything 1970 and newer. So now I search for the 50s and 60s in these sports. I dabble in some non sports sets too.
A couple of times a year I’ll watch Ken Burns PBS series “Baseball”, and every time I do, I wonder why I don’t collect some cards from the early 1900s? Well, during this years National Convention in Chicago I began my quest. And the quest brings me here, where I have made some good buys, and am learning much about these T206 cards. I bought a T206 reprint set and put them in 15 pocket sheets, and when I get an original T206, I replace the reprint. I have 146 original T206 and have 6 incoming in the mail, so I guess my “number” is 152 Frank ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I actually thought of doing what you did with the reprint set but couldn't find one for less than the price of 3 or 4 originals so I dropped the idea. Still, I like the look of a full binder. Welcome and good luck in your quest.

@bigtrain/Tom You are right the reprint set wasn't cheap. I searched my ebay past purchases but could not find the record. I think I paid $50 or $60 for the complete set, it might have been more

Hi Larry
Welcome to the Board! Stay away from our Buy/Sell/Trade forum. I've got enough competition already with other T206 collectors over there! ![]() Its a great message board and a resourceful place to further build your collection. Good Luck with your T206 set! Jantz |

Nice to see you here Guru!
This gentleman is an OBC legend and truly one of the good guys. "Any condition" is almost an understatement. A few years ago I visited Cooperstown and had a copy of Larry's grading guide placed in the HOF library. Maybe he could share it here for those of you unfamiliar with Larry's collecting standards. Yes, the BST competition for T206 beaters just got a lot tougher. |

i even thought about what you did. i narrowed my scope though, so it was obtainable. didn't think i wanted to go through with it for that reason. your well over 100 cards. that is great! your making huge progress. good luck. kevin |

Thanks for the welcome, nice to meet you all, and good to see some of my long time OBC friends here too.
Guru Grading Service is a free service I provide OBC members who want to get cards "slabbed". Cards are either returned to the submitter or they become part of the permanent collection, which is displayed during the National Convention. It's hard to believe I will be 60 years old next month, still playing with cardboard? ![]() |

Welcome to the forum, Larry, from a fellow T206 collector (though I'm not nearly as far along as you are). Do you have a favorite card within the set?
It's funny, I just started watching Baseball again the night before last (Netflix + a Roku = bliss!). Every time I see it, I get the itch to buy baseball cards. Off to the BST I go! Have a great weekend. I look forward to getting to know you! Bill

Guru!
The pleasure belongs to n54 as we all get to hang out with our fearless , but not creaseless OBC leader! Be not thine , PSA 9! Ye shall prepare for wear! Seek not the pristine but rather cardboard unclean... View the cards from a sewer, but none looking newer, than the decades gone by while slabbers ask "why?" Not to be undone by a PSA 1, Guru grading is fun. See Writing and Rips, even on GGS Flips... Wrinkles and creases, or cards in two pieces...that's the Guru we know, oh what a show! ![]()
