Choked me up a little bit. Loved the comment, "Hey A(sshole) Rod, this kid doesn't need steroids to be GREAT!" (I put the sshole part in myself)Dave.

that kid is a true CHAMP... he has turned his disability into an ability and become a role model to not only his peers, but more importantly us adults...

Thanks for sharing.

I love it how everyone treats him like one of the players, they don't pity him at all. He looks like a solid player for the squad.

Awesome video. I love the slide into second, plus how ripped up his pants were after the game. He plays the game hard and right. Just great!

Default My Son

I have a son with Spina Bfida who played the same exact way (with crutches) and I was frequently misty eyed when I watched him play as well as how the coaches and kids treated him the same as any other player. Awesome to see.

This is awesome.

I dug around a bit and this video is from way back in 2008. ESPN actually did do a story on him. His name is Adam Bender. He also played soccer, football and wrestling. The kid is a complete gamer... would love to get an update on what he's been up to.

Default Awesome

I could watch that video a hundred times...what a spirit in that little guy! Some of the people I see get out of their car in the handicap spots could take a lesson from this kid. Just because you're lazy, doesn't mean you're handicapped.

I know that last statement will piss off some people, but I did 20 years in the military and I've seen my share of guys missing limbs from IEDs. I watched a group of about 30 soldiers come into camp one day, everyone of them missing a significant piece of their body. They went through the chow line with the rest of us, then sat down and ate their lunch like it was any other dude, any other day. They were on their way back up the road to Baghdad to get closure on where they were deprived of their mobility for the rest of their lives. It was the most emotional thing I've ever seen. My N54 handle, HercDriver, is because I flew C-130s (the Hercules) for 20 years in the Air Force. I retired a few years ago, flying AC-130 Gunships out of Hurlburt. A gunship pilot is a bit removed from the battlefield that those guys lived in, but served as their top cover. The gunships were targets, but a gunship crew expected they were going to get shot at when firing on the bad guys. Those guys on the ground would get it when they weren't expecting it...that's even worse. They were 24 hours on edge...I respect the hell out of every one of them. And I respect the hell out of this little guy as a catcher, but even more as a testament to the human spirit.

Take Care,
Geno

Goosebumps. It's so good to see kids want to play the thrill of baseball. He's heck of ball player! I showed to the whole family even my 8 years old and he was like, whoa, he's fast!!

What I found particularly amazing was his seamless transition from two to one to no crutches at times, all-the-while focusing on what he was doing on the field.
