How to verify a 1938 Goudey?

Like I said, didn't know anything about this issue. I was fooled by the printing, though. Solid printing, not dots like modern printing. Wonder how it was printed.

Didn't cost me anything. That's the good thing. I was suspicious.

There are 2 different kinds of 1938 Goudeys. One with captions on front and one without. It is the printing on yours that looks way off not the fact it doesn't have captions. The one on ebay is a nice copy of one without the captions.

What fooled me was the printing. I noticed the crackling, but under magnification the printing was solid colors. (Not fuzzy dots like modern printing) Guess you learn something new every time. Luckily, it was thrown in on a deal. I didn't pay anything for it because it just didn't look right to me. I measured it, and it was exact. I was also expecting to find a scraped up area where 'reprint' used to be.
