1940's help
I've never handled either of these years, but based on the condition and feel I'm thinking they are real. Picked these up on the 2nd day of an estate sale while others fought for the 1989-92 set! For $3.50 total I figured it was worth a shot.

They're both the same year--1941
The red card is a 1941 Goudey--known for miscuts and rough cuts and available in four fun-filled colors!

Burdick classified 1941 Goudey as R324 in the American Card Catalog. They are colorful and not too expensive. They had fairly poor cuts for a lot of them. I think there are only 2 HOF'ers in the set.....These Goudeys rarely get any airtime on our board....

Thanks for the info! I had never seen a '41 Goudey before. Interesting how they "expanded" the set with color variations. Guess the county had other things on their minds...

The McCosky vital statistics caught my eye...
The McCosky "half" of the '41 Play Ball caught my eye. It has him listed at 5'9" and 161 pounds. I thought that was a bit short on Barney's statistics (something the experts frequently do to his baseball numbers). We had Barney at our Sports Scoop magazine table for the 1973 Midwest Sports Collectors Convention (when Lloyd and Carol Torpe, Frank Nagy and others ran one of the nation's very best shows). Barney was in great shape then and stood about 6'1" and 180 pounds - which is what the folks at baseball-reference.com have him listed.
