This one just ended, and I was the underbidder. I wasn't 100% sold on it, so I wasn't willing to go much higher.
Some of you probably saw it, and one of you probably won it. ![]() What do you guys think? Is it missing an ink pass of red? I currently have 5 examples of a T206 Hofman and there is never much red in the uniform or hands/face of Hofman. When looking at my examples, the place where I notice a slight shade of red is in the left shoulder area. I also saw a slight shade of red in the example on ebay, though very faint. 3 of my examples have some red in his left hand, 2 don't. http://www.ebay.com/itm/T-206-Hofman...p2047675.l2557 .

Definitely "missing" red but its likely due to whatever caused the back damage/staining and not a factory error.
I have seen a few of these and own one, all have had back issues.

The same seller also had this card up, so multiple cards like this with no mention of missing color, usually isn't a good sign for it being a factory mistake

I'm missing something. What is special about this card that a common card that should go for $20 is selling for $250+. Is Hofman that rare or do people value the printing error of missing red ink?

Andy:
If a T206 (or T205) is legitimately missing ink from a factory mistake, it carries that much, and more, value --- especially in the present market. As Chris pointed out, and z28jd supported, it appears as though this is faded example. My guess is that they were in a frame that was not shielded from periodic sunlight. This Hofman may be getting returned, though I can't see how this is the seller's fault...

Andy,
I fell for the same trick of claimed missing ink before guys like Chris, Erick and Johnny wisened me up. Before the guys mentioned it to me, I was buying them like hotcakes! Now when somebody sells a card that is missing ink, I always ask for a scan of the reverse and if the reverse is not clean of glue substance and missing paper because of glue, it probably is not truly missing a color pass. Below is what appears Chappie Charles missing the red pass BUT the glue interacted with the paper in time and red is gone. |
