Thanks for posting this, I didn't know it was going on. I think I might go Saturday but guessing all the baseball stuff will be gone.

Keith,

Don't buy all my stuff . I will be there around 9:30 Friday. Want to meet for a quick cup of coffee?

Jeff

Default Tuesday at Brimfield...

Last year I went on Saturday and I came away with next to nothing.

So this year I vowed to arrive on Day 1 at sun up. Which I did yesterday.

If there were showcases in the back of someone's tent, i walked back to look. If they had closed photo albums, I opened them. Stacks of trade cards were an opportunity to look for some interesting tobacco stuff. Bottles, pennants, business letterhead and invoices, I looked at it all.

Yet I found nothing I wanted.

It is still an awesome place to walk around and see unique stuff at every turn. Really cool environment filled with collectors, hipsters, artists, and long time antique dealers.

There were 3 dealers who carried only baseball and sports stuff - mostly equipment. Pretty good stuff too. Just nothing for me.

I'm posting a few photos of stuff I saw but didn't purchase.

You may not find baseball stuff if you go but if you enjoy exploring and people watching you will not be disappointed.

Hi-
I found a lot this week and am very excited there are still a few days to go. Below are a few of my purchases. There is a Ruth photo, a Mack and Huggins photo, a Peach glove advertisement (sort of) and 1948 World Series items. I also found a cool old basketball picture, an early baseball, and many other items that I will scan or photograph later in the week. I am constantly amazed at what can be bought there!

Default Brimfield finds

Here are what my dad and I picked up in Brimfield. We were there Wednesday through Friday morning, and bought a lot, but we didn't find anything earth shattering. We also enjoyed meeting up with net54 member Alan, picking up some great items from him. The favorite item we picked up on the trip is a circa 1900 Yale baseball action panoramic. In the photo with the panoramic is an Adirondack Simmons style bat, an off condition Spalding Axletree ring bat, a large Ivy League track race finish photo, and a small circa 1910 hockey photo in rough condition. In the second photo, shown are a unmarked dog ear helmet, a childs turn of the century football, an Army sweater, a catchers mitt with Decker Patent, and 2 basketball team photos (1 Dickinson Law school team). The third photo shows the majority of our clothing purchases which included a 1930's football jersey, a 1950's football jersey, an heavy wool sweater with a H, a vintage Andover hockey sweater, a nice 3/4 length sleeve Baseball uniform, and a Naval Academy boxing robe. Also shown in this photo are a pair of Everlast boxing gloves, 3 early corkballs, and a very nice Spalding Pittsburgh pennant. In the last photo, we picked up several banners and pennants - most relating to St Pauls School. St Pauls has 3 school teams that competed with each other - Old Hundred, Isthmian, and Delphian. Hockey legend Hobey Baker played football and hockey at St Pauls for the Old Hundred team. Also in this photo are 2 Football mayos, a Carlisle Indians v. Syracuse ticket, a cool Dartmouth dorm room photo with a football broadside shown, a Phillips Andover football cabinet photo, a baseball team cabinet, and a 1917 St Paul's school hockey program. Overall it was a fun trip, and Brimfield really exemplifies the thrill of the hunt. If anyone sees anything they might like, most of these items will be listed for sale on AntiqueSportsShop.com in the near future.

I went today and found nothing. Several cheap store model bats, found one gamer from a 1930's player who played 8 season but wasn't good. Guy wanted $175, which is a joke of a price.

I didn't eat any food besides junk food. Lol. But I walked around for 5 hours. A lot of people had already closed down and left.

The great thing about Brimfield is that if you're not having any luck finding vintage treasure, there are lots of great food options to improve your mood. Most of the food can be found in central area and there is no shortage of options. If you enjoy roast beef, there is a truck that has a delicious sandwich overflowing with meat - they slow roast the meat on spits that you can watch go round and round - be careful as it may induce drooling. Lots of good sausages and hot dogs, a booth that focuses on a Pilgrim sandwich and a newer addition that has more "upscale" offerings including gazpacho and a yummy Tuscan pannini. For the money, though, your best bet is BT's Smokehouse. Here you will find delicious pulled pork and beef brisket as well as the most delicious cole slaw in the northeast. They don't skimp on the portions and you're sure to be satisfied. This year they added a breakfast menu - my friend had the Sausage Fatty Biscuit every day of the week - I tried it and can attest that it's fantastic. If you're in the area, make sure to check out BT's Smokehouse restaurant in Sturbridge - it's right across from the entrance to Old Sturbridge Village. The chef makes everything from scratch and has won many awards in Massachusetts - can't go wrong with the Andouille bites or Cheezy Bawls.

There are many breakfast options (i.e. Egg sandwiches) at Brimfield but out of deference to my favorite egg sandwich maker ever, Keith's Lemonade Stand (shut down a few years ago due to health code violations - guess Massachusetts has something against using a piece of rope to keep your refrigerator closed), I can't bring myself to eat at any other establishments. There are some good pancakes at the Road House in the central eating area.

For desserts, you have many choices of ice cream, cookies, brownies, etc. If it's pie that you seek, you'll need to get to J&J's field early Friday morning. There is a church that has a shack in the back of the field that sells homemade goodies to raise money for their cause. The pie there sells out quickly, usually well before 9am.
