SGC (1910) and PSA (1908) differ on when these cards were produced, and I haven't been able to find much definitive info either way. Which date is the 'consensus' on this series?

I've always used 1910 as a catch-all date for them. I suppose you could try and figure out when specific photos were taken but that would only get you a no earlier than date. The Jack Johnson image is the same one used to make his side view T218 and that one has 1909 fights on the back.
There's been lots of research into the baseball T cards and I don't recall any of them being pushed back to 1908 date-wise, only 1909. Seems only logical that tha boxing cards would track the baseball cards in terms of issue dates.

man, somehow that card's condition absolutely fits the image. I love it.
Thanks for the help on the dates too! I might also contact PSA and see if they have any 'special' info to have suggested this date... |

got a reply back from PSA. some interesting info.
"The information noting this set from 1908 came from the boxing catalog titled ‘Seconds Out – Round One’. ![]() ![]() It looks like SGC and other industry sources get “1910” from the year that the T211 RED SUN baseball cards are believed to have been produced. ![]() Should PSA decide to change the year for the T226 cards in the database, they will notify me and I will update the registry accordingly. I hope this information helps." |

Here's a SGC 1910. Looking at my PSA graded Red Sun cards they are all 1910 as they stated.

Seconds Out is a great resource but not infallible. They list the UTC issue as 1939 (PSA has the issue at 1935) when, in fact, it was released no earlier than 1941.

Hmmm, I never noticed it before but the Owen Moran and Dick Nelson cards shown above also have the same image that was used to make their T218 cards. The Jeffries card is different. I'm not sure what that means, but it's interesting.

Here's one issue I have with a 1908 timeframe: Look at Jeffries. He's in shape and balding pretty badly.
In 1904 when he retired he looked like this: ![]() By 1907 he looked like this, the fat guy in the bowler hat: ![]() In 1909 he looked like this as he prepped for the Johnson fight: ![]() Which Jeffries does the T226 resemble?
