Authentic "hand signed" 1982 World Series ball. I contacted the seller to tell him this is not hand signed (and it's not even a 1982 ball). He actually argued that the ink smudges proves it's hand signed. Rather than argue, I reported it as fraudulent to ebay. Predictably, they did nothing. It sold. I did the ".ca" trick with the URL and it sold for $150. Incredible:

Not sure which is more surprising: that he would stick to his story when confronted, or that someone would pay $150 for that.
For future reference, you may actually have better luck getting such things yanked by posting them here than by e-mailing eBay directly. Unless you know the right people, eBay doesn't pay much heed to the lone voice crying in the wilderness. It seems at least one of the "right people" pays close attention to what is posted here though. |

I love that the ball actually has an advertisement for Xerox!

It's crazy. I'm new here. From now on when I see something so off the wall, I'll post it. Imagine someone showing you that ball and telling you they paid $150 for it. "Xerox", "Taiwan"?

What is the ".ca trick"?

If you look at sold listings now, ebay chose to hide the sale price on best offers. However, if you go up to the URL and change ".com" to ".ca" (or maybe another country), it will show you the sale price. I understand that it's only a matter of time before that changes as well. Why ebay has decided to hide that is anyone's guess.

This is only a total guess but maybe the law in Canada states that final auction prices, from an auction house, must be made public??

No, ebay just hasn't gotten around to it yet...when they do something new they almost always implement it in the US first and it slowly makes it's way to all versions. And technically ebay isn't an auction house and their listings really aren't auctions. Ever been to an auction with a specific ending time on each lot and the winning bidder is the last one to sneak a bid in?
