Hey everyone! Recently I attended a card show in search of t206s and was pleasantly surprised by a nice little interview by the local press. It was great that one of the writers from the paper decided to attend the show and write an article focused on baseball cards and sports memorabilia. I was asked why, at the age of only 15, am I involved in vintage cards (t206s) rather than the new, modern cards. I explained to him that I enjoy learning about the players on these cards, understanding how baseball and life was so much different back in the early 1900's. I continued by saying that t206s are unique, and on top of that, nowhere near perfect. That each card tells a story, printed a certain way with deformities of its own. I added that there are various backs, each having different values. He commented, along with every other dealer at the show, that he was impressed with me being into these vintage cards. I included during the conversation that Net54 was a forum that I joined over the summer which allowed me to gain even more knowledge about these t206s and other cards. That it is a great environment were collectors can discuss cards, baseball, buy, sell, trade, etc. The interview was finished with the photographer snapping some pictures of me and my new acquisitions, a t206 John Titus and a t206 J.F. Kiernan (Sold!). It was a great experience for myself, and I was very excited to see that the topic of baseball cards and sports memorabilia was covered by the local press.

I don't know what is more impressive: the fact you handled yourself so superbly or that you already have 425 posts since June!

Excellent work Wazoo! Sounds like it was a great interview. In trading PM's with you, I had no idea that you were 15. You have become very knowledgeable about the T206 nuances and conduct yourself very well on the board. I agree with the previous posts that you are the future of our hobby and I have to say that while I am extremely proud of my own two sons (ages 16 and 20), I do wish at times that they shared my passion for this hobby. Best wishes, Steve

Upon learning that you are 15 years old, my first thought was that if I had started collecting T206 at 15 (in 1971), I would probably own a half dozen Wagners and Planks. On further consideration, I would probably be slamming my head against a wall on a daily basis for selling those Wagners and Planks in 1978 to buy a used Firebird that ended up in the junkyard after a year. Hope you keep up your passion for collecting and pass it on.

Awesome job Waz. Keep up the good work man. As others have said you really do handle yourself well at your age. I wish I was buying t206 when I was 15. I still kick myself for not looking for them back then. I just always thought they were going to be too expensive so I never did.
Best, AndyH .

http://troyrecord.com/articles/2012/...8497707222.txt I typed in "sports cards t206" in google news and this is one of two stories that popped up. The other was about a stolen collection, and this story has a lot of your specifics. So I assume it is correct. Last edited by bn2cardz; 11-27-2012 at 01:21 PM. |

I like how optimistic the title is. I've been to probably about 100 card shows, most when I was a kid because my dad would go to anything local(props to pops) and I was never interviewed once. Don't get down Wazoo if you end up without another interview in your lifetime about cards.
On a similar note, I just interviewed an Australian kid the Pirates signed a couple months back. He is 16 yrs old and he couldn't believe he was going to be the feature story on the site either tonight or tomorrow. I thought it was funny the third time he asked me if I'll send him the link when it was done ![]() So I basically just got a first hand reaction of how Wazzy probably feels right now

Great article, Waz.
It reminded me of going to shows with my father in the 80's. Except I was more interested in Mark McQwire RC's than T206's at the time. Now excuse me while I go smack my head against the wall. -Chris.

Nice post.
Only 15 years old and you have a grasp on the "old" stuff.GREAT! When I was 17 in 1978 I went to my first card show to start Playballs. (All 3 years. ) I was torn between buying 1978 Topps at 1 cent per card, or picking up 1939 cards at 25 cents per card . I finally completed my Playballs about 12 years later. I never looked to buy new stuff again. Finished the Playballs, 1934 Goudey, and 15 cards away fron Diamond Stars. Sure I still have my Topps from 1977 back to 1972. And 1961, 1955. Best of luck to you. Great post. Tom |
