i recently purchased a T206 burns miscut (PSA 1 MC) that presents pretty well, despite a tiny hole and small crease. when it arrived i took a nice close look at it, and at fist saw the bottom of the comma that follows the name at the top of the card. So, after digging out my magnifying glass, i discovered the very bottom tips of the rest of the name/line. you cant really tell there are even there ('cept the comma) without a magnifier. my question is this: does it still count as a double name?

Seriously, provide a hi-res scan and Chris can figure it out if anyone can.

If you have some decent scans Ill take a look, Jantz has a good eye for these. Without any ink showing of the player name it will be impossible to tell.

still working on high-res scans. it seems that either my skill at taking good scans/pics or my equipment is in reality only sub-par at best.... will keep trying.

first, i know my equipment sux, but here is a pic:
![]() very hard to see, but there is the very bottom of a comma, and the bottom tips of letters there. and by the shape of those tips, i believe it is burns and not another name. any other opinions? |

Double-comma's command a 1.3% premium. Don't accept any less.

Bill Burns was in print group 2 (350 Only) so the other subject has to come from the same group. So that leaves you with 199 to choose from. The coma's move around quite a bit in the captions so many subjects can be easily ruled out. Chris is good at lining up images like this, so maybe he can come up with something. Beck, Boston Nat'l is a good suspect but I'm sure there could be others.

thats pretty cool. to help narrow it down a bit, i think its a short named chicago amer player, based on the bits of ink left that i can see with my magnifier (so much more clear in person).

The most likely is Burns. Same name T206's are far more common than two different names.

This thread reminds me of back when everyone used to say something about Burns having his glove on the wrong hand. The guy threw lefty and check out his T3 card, same exact picture but the glove isn't wrong there. The T206 artist messed up and poor Bill Burns took the brunt of it

Going with my gut, I would say the name on the top would be Burns.
I've seen quite a few miscut Burns T206s. The OP's Burns has a Piedmont 350 fact. 25 back and the Burns I posted has a Sweet Caporal 350 fact. 30. So miscut Burns aren't exclusive to a particular back. Jantz Last edited by Jantz; 02-07-2013 at 10:01 PM. |

Bravo Chris, now that is a beauty!
For the record, I also have a Burns with his name up top. Don't know the back off-hand. I also have a Burns with no name, which is two less than a double-name, which means one of you owes me a name!

thanks everyone for their respective help and opinions. this is my first graded T206, so its nice that it is also a "nearly" double-name to boot!
