A paragraph from a book I was reading stated that film companies bought rights to show film of World Series as early as 1908, and that by 1910 the price had escalated substantially. It also mentions that Mugsy McGraw hired the Mutual Film Company to film his playees as a training tool as early as 1914.
Does anyone know if any footage from these early World Series have survived? The Giants training films would be something special to see as well. Just wondering if anyone knows anything about these. Tom C |

I remember seeing some early footage where the Giants hoisted their championship flag. Does anybody know the details of that?

These films were made. You can find, for example, contemporary newspaper references to showings of 1908 WS films at theaters. I have seen (and have on saved my computer) some very short pre-game and game sequences from the Cubs-A's 1910 series. Unfortunately, the vast majority of these films have very likely turned to dust long ago.
Here are a couple of still frames from the 1910 series: Last edited by bmarlowe1; 09-02-2012 at 12:22 PM. |

As with most films pre-1920...they have been lost to time. There are a very few snippets that have survived from the early days of baseball. I know the HOF has a few dozen frames from the deadball era but they are either too degraded or too fragile to be shown/transcribed.

I collect DVD/tapes of old BB Games. One I have entitled BB Newsreels 1913-38 has some dead-ball era footage.
1913 Opening Day at Ebbets Field and 1919 World Series with warmups and some game footage from game 1 and game3. Pretty nice stuff. If someone wants I could make a copy of the DVD. thanks Bob
