About an auction house. I just opened a package from Legendary and found their August private sale catalog for the E107 near set. Beautiful catalog and one of the only ones in a long time that I'm keeping for my reference library. Nicely done!

I got one today also. High quality photos. Only complaint is the photos getting partially lost in the binding of the catalog.

No prices, you need to call Doug Allen to get it. I think they're trying to sell the entire set as one lot w/o breaking it up, so there is no question that the price is going to be huge. There's Mathewson, Wagner, Young, practically all of the big cards. Crazy set. Any opinions on where this ranks in terms of the most valuable sets ever? (I'm sure a complete T206 set w/ Wagner, Doyle, and Plank would probably be worth more, however.)

I got mine today too, and it's really nice to see all the E107's pictured together. I'm sure there are quite a few I've never seen before.

Not sure what happened with your book. My book has all the images well clear of the staples; all images are sharp and beautiful. Hats off to Legendary for doing a great job! |

Doug just called me and said if anyone wants one of these E107 books for themselves, and they might not get a catalog otherwise, just drop him an email at
dallen@legendaryauctions.com and he will have one sent out for you. best regards

The E107 book is a great reference for the set. Hopefully if the set sells to one person, it's not kept a secret what it sold for. |

Let's play the hi/lo game on the price of the set - over or under $750K?

I'm curious about the importance of having such a book with lengthy write-ups of individual cards for a private sale of a full set. Since each card is not being sold individually is the catalog going to make any difference (say as opposed to adding two pages up front in the other catalog)? It's certainly a great reference for the issue though.

It has to be over....the Wagner and Young must be in the 75 to 100k range each, don't they?

I just noticed the Doug Allen write-up in the beginning of the book refers to it as a "seven-figure set", so I guess that answers my question....

For 750K they'll let you hold it for an hour or two.... Last edited by barrysloate; 07-20-2012 at 04:48 AM. |

Because they're rarer? Or because people like to collect black and white pictures of men in street clothes?

Did anyone else notice that the Chance, Clark, Joss, Matthewson, McGraw, Plank, and Wagner all exhibit the exact same toning pattern on the reverse of the cards? Most of the verso's were not shown, but I wonder how many others cards in the Sullivan collection exhibit the same pattern?
My guess is that some of these E107s came out of an album that had corner holders similar to the ones many postcards have. In any event whoever this early collector was, he had a fabulous collection! Jeff |

For $750K, you might get the Wagner & Mathewson.
I'm thinking the price tag is closer to $1.8 to $2 million. Great catalog, it will be in my reference library forever. Tony |

To recap, T206Collector doesn't understand why people think the E107 issue should be worth more then a T206 set and E107Collector thinks the catalog is fantastic. Surprising.

just opened mine, incredible catalog.
would be more "fun" if they broke the set and sold individually, like SCP did with the T206 Harris Collection. would get more people involved, create a bigger buzz, and possibly sell for more in the end, no? |

Probably for less Michael. It takes an incredible amount of time and work to assemble such a big collection, so the "sweat equity" is almost certainly built into the price.

I hope the new owner won't break up this partial set. It is an ultra tough project putting this set together even in this "partial" stage.

On another note, a poster above noted the toning on several cards. Most E107's can be attributed to 4 different groups of original cards that were original old time collections. Scott |

Scott- aren't the toned ones from the group that Sotheby's had about 8-10 years ago, that came out of a notebook? I remember being sent there by a bunch of E107 collectors to bid for them.

The 2005 Sotheby's had some back disturbance from the scrapbook, thus the SGC 10-30 grades. I bought 3 of the 4 "commons lots", Chris got the other one in that particular auction. |

I never knew there was an action pose in the set (Carr). There are a couple of "drawing" types that match the styling but Carr appears to be the only action shot.

Sick!!!
I have owned two E107's in my life...sold my Bender last year to another Net54 board member (kinda sad I did, though, since I think it was nicer than the Bender in the catalogue - although technically the same grade at SGC 10). I just got my McGinnity graded about a month ago, so the catalogue you all received is already out-dated and needs revision since it said that only 6 examples exist in the combined PSA/SGC pop reports. That should now say 7!! I hope that "misprint" doesn't influence the price of the set going to $2mm instead of $1.995mm. Incredible reference document though! So exciting! I hope the new owner continues the journey and does not break up the collection (no matter how much I'd love to buy some of those cards individually)!!
