I'm thinking of crossing over a nice (good image and centering) PSA 5 n172 to SGC simply because of baggy--and still the card floats. What would be current thought on whether the value of the card goes down a bit on SGC, presuming same grade? Thanks.

I have not found grades really matter on OJ's like other cards, its all about image and how it presents, A very sharp PSA 2 can and will outsell a faded PSA 5 most days. I prefer SGC for the look of OJ's but from a sell stand point I dont think it matters for mid grade PSA or SGC at all.

...if you get a lower grade from SGC.
If you don't care about the grade, you aren't about to sell the card and you like the way the card looks in an SGC holder, cross it over. I prefer the SGC holders. Almost all of my Old Judges are in them (except the ones that I acquired already in PSA holders). |

I, like Kevin and most others who have their OJs graded, prefer SGC. OJs are one of the few sets in which SGC has graded far more than PSA. I think you'll be happy unless SGC deems your card altered. I've had some higher grade PSA OJs cross over as Authentic which is a bummer.

I thought that if you say, for example, that "5" is your minimum grade in the cross over, then they cannot slab it as a 4 or an "A" or whatever. Wrong?

You certainly can turn in the slab with a minimum cross-over grade requirement. In my cases, I typically (not always), bust them out before submitting to SGC and that is when I have received authentic grades.
