I don't get it...I've never retracted a bid. EVER. I have however retracted a Best Offer. Only because I noticed there were other pending offers, so that I could enter a higher offer..

Wow. That guy has bid on 1146 different auctions in the last 30 days. That's some wild activity. His 29 retractions in 30 days is the highest I've seen on ebay.

It's likely an account used for shill bidding.
The high bid activity is likely used to hide the fact that it's being primarily used to bid one seller's auctions up. The retractions probably result when the seller accidentally wins his own auctions with this shill account, and cancels the winning bid so he doesn't have to pay the eBay fees. Due to the fact that eBay hides bidder's identities, I can't think of a way to trace this back to the seller using this shill account.

I retracted a few times, one time I meant to bid $40, came out to like $40,000 and was freaking out cause the auction was ending in like 10 mins lol

I agree its shilled, I had an auction where it was shilled the person retracted and I once became the high bidder after several days of being outbid. I of course moved on and later was told after the person retracted, that it is still a binding contract and I was high bidder
Also 80 something was the highest amount of retraction I have seen, person states his account was "hijacked" |

It's so different on ebay these days. I remember a couple of years ago getting a nasty little note from ebay for having 2 retractions within a 30 day period. On one auction I forgot I had the card already and immediately retracted the bid, on the other I bid on a card and won it in an online auction (same card as was being auctioned on ebay) 4 or 5 days before the auction ended and so retracted the ebay bid.
Now, you can retract your a@@ off and nothing happens unless you retract within x hours of the item's closing and of course the seller can pull his item whenever he wants. It's a different world on ebay... |

I have retracted a few times because of activity like this. I would rather miss a card than be taken for a ride
