1st image Psa 1 SHAPPE
2nd image SHAPPE/altered??? 3rd image Regular SHARPE I posted this card (which I bought off of ebay) on the forum around 5 years ago thinking that it may be a possible SHAPPE. As I collect t205 and t206 error cards, my thinking was that this card was printed at the actual moment the printing plate broke and would be a most welcome addition to my collection. The other possibility is that someone tried to remove the "leg" and make it a "SHAPPE". As I looked at this card yesterday and compared it to my graded "SHAPPE" and a regular SHARPE, I convinced myself that this card is the result of the former, sort of a snapshot in time kind of thing. On the regular SHARPE, the outside of the leg of the "R" starts much further away from the "post" than in the Shappe/altered card if that makes any sense. Anyway, I thought it would interesting to post it and get some responses. I really am trying to figure this card out and constructive criticisms are welcome.

My opinion for what it's worth:
All the true Ps on all three cards seem to have a flattening on the outer edge of the SE portion of the loop. On the graded card, the first "P/altered R" does not seem to exhibit this outer edge flattening. Coupled with what looks like the bottom of an R leg on this card, I would favor the altered R option. On the second image, the first "P/altered R" looks more like the loop in the other P. Despite the mess below the P loop, this card looks more Shappish than Sharpish to me. It almost looks like someone tried to make the first P into an R, because they knew that was Bud's name, and then someone tried to remove it to recreate the variation card. I have absolutely no hands on experience with the Shappe variation. The third image is clearly a Sharpe. I have two Sharpes but I am visiting family now. I will check them upon my return to see if the true Ps have the outer edge flattening. Interesting question. Frank |
