He was married on October 17, 1914... He didn't meet Claire until 1922 and married her in 1929. It seems logical, but I was able to turn this information up in a 2 minute google search and so could a crook.

and gets his wife a mirror for their anniversary????
And wouldn't he more likely have it from "George". Can the engraving experts chime in? |

I think I'll engrave 'Happy St. Patrick's Day Marilyn, from Joe' on my toaster and put it up on eBay.

I just engraved this piece of aluminum on my machine in about 3 minutes just now.
The mirror would have been hand engraved from that period. This piece was definitely engraved with a computerized engraving machine (much like mine). Notice how I happened to use the same exact style (font) as this engraver from 90 years ago? Especially look at the spacing between the "H" and the "e" in Helen. Definitely machine engraved. Phil |

The engraving should read:
"My husband just signed a $100,000 contract with the New York Yankees, and all I got was this stinkin' mirror for our Anniversary." Maybe it's the reason they separated. ![]() |

If it was genuine, there would be provenance. It would be a significant item from Ruth that would have to have come from family, estate or similar, and this provenance would be known.

The buyer of the mirror is also a huge buyer of the Helmar cards

Maybe the seller was duped when they acquired the item, believing it was authentic. Now trying to sell it thinking it is the real deal.
I'm just sayin |
