I'm just finishing up my '56 Topps set, and looking to move on to something from an earlier era. I'm looking for something on the small side (not more than 70 or so cards) and on the cheap side (not more than a few thousand bucks when all is said and done). My collection is very thin on cards from the 1920s, so I'd like to find a good set from that era. I've been looking at some strip cards but so far haven't really found anything that I've fallen in love with. Set would ideally have a Ruth in it. I've been up and down the Standard Catalog of Baseball Cards and nothing sticks out. Any suggestions? Does anybody have a favorite set from the '20s?

I like the W514 and W516 Strip Cards because there is a Ruth and also alot of the big names from the T206 era. The W514 has the Joe Jackson. I'd be collecting these Strip Cards but all my extra money is spent on T206's.

I am working on a Neilson's Chocolate set. the set is known as V61. I am going after the Type I variations, which are a little more scarce than the Type II variations.
There are a good mix of HOF'ers including a Ruth & Cobb. the set has 120 cards. ZWheat |

How about a 1927 York Caramels (E210) set? There's only 60 cards - and Ruth (and Gehrig, and Cobb) are included.

1923 Maple Crispette set? Cobb / Ruth in that one. Not breaking the bank on anything unless you want a high end Ruth. I love how they're tiny too.

1922 Eastern Exhibits- Meets your budget and has only 20 cards and mostly HOFers including Ruth, Cobb, Johnson and Alexander.

Scott - I love that 1922 Ruth Exhibit card. 1920's Exhibits and other black/white cards just seem to ooze vintage. That Maple Crispette set is really cool, super tough in mid grades.

Consider W512s
Around 10 baseball cards, inexpensive, and contains Ruth, Cobb, Hornsby, Frisch, Alexander, Bancroft, Speaker, Wright, Scott, and Vance.

I vote for the 1921 Exhibits. 64 cards with Ruth, Cobb, Johnson, Speaker and a host of other HOFers. A set in VG+ should set you back $3-4000. Check them out.

I'd vote for E120. With it's designs around the borders, I find it more attractive than the typically drab 1920's back and white cards. The drawback, if you're looking for quick completion, is that it has 240 cards.
