Why is this ball going for so much on Ebay?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...=STRK:MEWAX:IT It says approx value $200-450 on Keyman Collectibles http://keymancollectibles.com/balls/...arbaseball.htm It is currently at 550 with still 2 days to go? Why it is overvalued? Not even mint, what I be missing? Last edited by Shoeless Moe; 12-26-2010 at 07:59 AM. |

Because like most other Ebay auctions the seller has his friends bid the ball up to catch some sucker that thinks it is worth alot! Hope you had a Merry Christmas!

Maybe Coach's Corner needed a vintage ball to put 6 different unattainable signatures on.
![]() ...........but seriously. Sometimes stuff on Ebay just goes higher then what you think market value might be on it...........just as it quite often goes lower then you think it might be. |

Dale Gear is a tough ball to find and if two people are trying to complete a run, they will go and go and go. Regarding pricing. Were this near mint, it would be an $800 ball. Keyman is a cool site, but use it only as a rough guide at best IMO.

I am a new member, and this is my first post. I'm more researcher than collector, with a primary interest in Deadball Era baseball in Kansas.
I don't know if it had any impact on the transaction discussed in this thread, but there clearly is some mischief afoot regarding Dale Gear. When I recently did a search on him, I came across a website, baseballhistoricalfoundation.org, whose sole purpose is to make the ridiculous claim that Dale Gear was actually a woman. The claim is based on a purported interview with his "granddaughter," who offered up two altered photographs and a fabricated birth certificate in the way of proof. Also, someone has made an anonymous post on findagrave.com claiming that Gear was the only woman to play in the major leagues. I'm passing this on for whatever it's worth.... |

After further researching the website owner...he also has a column on a sports parody website..that site is meant to be a joke.

Thanks for clearing this up! I guess my first reaction was to view it as just suspect, not funny.
